The Constitution Now and Forever!

Never has there been a time in our nation’s history when the values and principles our great Republic was founded upon have been more neglected, assaulted, and on verge of overthrow as today. Communists openly parade in our streets and call for the ousting of the president. Marxist terror organizations like Antifa and Black Lives Matter rampage in the cities, looting, destroying, and burning everything to ash. Worse still, our culture had been perverted and de-Christianized beyond recognition. The very idea of America as a shining city on a hill – a refuge for those seeking to protect and enjoy their Faith, Families, and Freedom – is under withering attack. And the compact that holds together the American People as a united force, the U.S. Constitution, is dangling by a single thread.

I have not been shy about stating my unshakable belief that the Constitution of the United States was and is inspired by Almighty God. Nothing matching its brilliance has ever been devised by the minds of men because the Constitution did not originate in mortal minds, but in the mind of the Creator. The American Founding Fathers acknowledged their reliance upon, and faith in, the Lord in The Declaration of Independence. They staked everything on the idea that rights come from God, that Freedom is our birthright, and that the purpose of civil society was to defend and secure individual rights while punishing those who would violate them.

After nominally securing their Independence from tyrannical Great Britain after the Revolution, the American states existed in a loose confederacy. Their governing charter, the Articles of Confederation, was weak and inefficient. It was not strong or wise enough to keep thirteen free and independent states united together under one umbrella of principles and purpose. Just a few short years into Independence, the confederacy was about to collapse into economic ruin, anarchy, and civil war.

Take the time to read the correspondence between America’s early leaders in the period between 1783 and 1787 and you discover that they felt their country tottered on the precipice of cataclysm. The currency was worthless. Congress was powerless to enforce its laws or to extract funds to operate. States began taxing one another and their peoples were on the verge of civil war. Mobs gathered and rioted. And Europe sat licking its lips, waiting to pounce and gobble up the divided fragments of America. The confederated states needed a miracle to survive.

Heaven knew the situation and sent a miracle. The People’s representatives, led by George Washington, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, George Wythe, Roger Sherman, Alexander Hamilton, my own relative Caleb Strong, and other illustrious statesmen, met in Philadelphia to revise the defunct Articles of Confederation. At one point during their deliberations, Benjamin Franklin delivered a stirring plea. He remarked:

“[H]ow has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection.–Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance?

“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth–that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that “except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human Wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.

“I therefore beg leave to move–that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that service.”

Due to a lack of funds, a chaplain’s services were never employed. But the spirit of these humble sentiments rested upon the Convention the remainder of the summer as the Constitution gradually fell into place.

The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. On that day, George Washington penned a letter to the president of Congress, in which he observed:

“In all our deliberations on this subject we kept steadily in our view, that which appears to us the greatest interest of every true American, the consolidation of our Union, in which is involved our prosperity, felicity, safety, perhaps our national existence. This important consideration, seriously and deeply impressed on our minds, led each State in the Convention to be less rigid on points of inferior magnitude, than might have been otherwise expected; and thus the Constitution, which we now present, is the result of a spirit of amity, and of that mutual deference and concession which the peculiarity of our political situation rendered indispensible.”

The creation of a strong and free Union was one of the crowning achievements of the Constitution. Before the Constitution, the people of America were Virginians, New Yorkers, South Carolinians, and so forth. After the Constitution, they became Americans first and above all else. The authority of the Constitution is in fact embodied in the Preamble’s phrase: “We the People.”

The Preamble beautifully spelled out the purpose of the Constitution; indeed, the purpose of the American People:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

James Madison called the Constitution the “cement of the Union” (James Madison, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1809). More than any other thing, this ingenious charter of Freedom pulled Americans of all persuasions together and set them on the course to greatness.

As one united People, and under the guidance of the Constitution, Americans did just what they set out to do – they estsblished a Republic that became the freest, most powerful, most prosperous state in the world. Peace prevailed, law and order were upheld, happiness was general, goodness was common, and the blessings of Liberty were enjoyed more widely and by a larger group of people than ever before in recorded history. And it was all due to the People’s native virtue and their careful obedience to the enlightened precepts of the Constitution.

Every American owes a debt to the Constitution and to the men who sacrificed to institute and maintain it. The core idea of America – the revolutionary idea that men can and should govern themselves and that they have rights and a stewardship for which they are accountable to God alone – still exists today, albeit in a bloodied and battered state, because of the Constitution. The Constitution had been attacked on every side since its inception, yet, because of its genius and its sacred origin, it still stands. Millions of Americans would still fight and die to maintain our beloved Constitution.

In his Farewell Address of 1796, President George Washington warned of the very problems facing us in 2020. He warned of factional strife, changes to sound principles, the danger of foreign influence, the scourge of foreign war, and the machinations of a minority combined against the Liberty enshrined in the Constitution. He stated:

“To the efficacy and permanency of your Union, a government for the whole is indispensable . . . This government, the offspring of our own choice, uninfluenced and unawed, adopted upon full investigation and mature deliberation, completely free in its principles, in the distribution of its powers, uniting security with energy, and containing within itself a provision for its own amendment, has a just claim to your confidence and your support. Respect for its authority, compliance with its laws, acquiescence in its measures, are duties enjoined by the fundamental maxims of true liberty. The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of government. But the Constitution which at any time exists, till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole people, is sacredly obligatory upon all. The very idea of the power and the right of the people to establish government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey the established government.

“All obstructions to the execution of the laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels and modified by mutual interests.

“However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

“Towards the preservation of your government, and the permanency of your present happy state, it is requisite, not only that you steadily discountenance irregular oppositions to its acknowledged authority, but also that you resist with care the spirit of innovation upon its principles, however specious the pretexts.”

The old General may as well have been speaking of the Progressive Congressional Caucus whose members infest Congress, governors who defy the Constitution and oppress their peoples, Black Lives Matter, the ADL, and SPLC, which sow racial division and hate, Antifa and the Communist Party which stir up violence and rebellion, the “defund the police” movement which is paving the way for increased thuggery, the destruction of lives and property, and full-scale insurrection, and any number of acts of presidents, the courts, and legislatures which have divided our People, weakened the rule of law, and made us less free. The remedy prescribed by the Father of our Country is obedience to the Constitution, adherence to its pristine principles, and resistance to the “organized factions” trying to “subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government.”

America’s #1 enemy, apart from her own unrighteousness, apathy, and ignorance, is the communist conspiracy. Most were fooled into complacency when the Soviets faked their “collapse,” believing that the communists’ threat to our society had ended. In truth, the cabal has worked at breakneck speed the past thirty years to bring America to a tipping point. The current crisis engulfing our nation is their doing. Those of us who warned of this conspiracy are gratified to see people waking up in droves, but lament that it took a national crisis, the loss of so much Liberty, and the shattering of peace to shake them from their slumber.

By returning to the original principles of the Constitution, enforcing them in every state and community for the protection of our inalienable rights, harshly punishing oath-breakers and criminals, and forcefully crushing the illegal and treasonous communist movement and all of its front groups – Black Lives Matter, Antifa, Open Society Foundations, ActBlue, Code Pink, Socialist Party USA, etc. – we can save our special nation from a horrific crisis. The enemy is so entrenched that it will almost certainly require blood to restore our Republic. Blood is always the price of Freedom. By acting swiftly now, however, we can mitigate the quantity of blood and ensure that it is communist, not patriot blood, that refreshes the tree of Liberty.

The American People, united behind the correct set of principles, rallied by the memory of their God, families, and country, and roused by their burning love of Freedom, are unstoppable! We may slip and lose ground temporarily in the coming clash, but don’t lose hope and don’t be afraid; our side will triumph. Freedom will prevail. Americanism will defeat communism. And the Constitution will stand supreme once again.

Long ago, our beloved George Washington affirmed: “The Constitution is the guide which I never can abandon” (George Washington to Boston Selectmen, July 28, 1795). Let that be our pledge as American Sons of Liberty. Let’s follow our General’s lead once more as we surge into battle against our ravenous enemies. Let our bright banner read: “The Constitution Now and Forever!”

Russell M. Nelson – Prophet of God

Our sustaining of prophets is a personal commitment that we will do our utmost to uphold their prophetic priorities. Our sustaining is an oath-like indication that we recognize their calling as a prophet to be legitimate and binding upon us.” – President Russell M. Nelson, “Sustaining the Prophets,” General Conference, October, 2014

Many people believe that the most powerful person on earth is the president of the United States. This is incorrect. The most powerful man on earth, filling the most globally-significant position of trust, is the Lord’s living prophet.

This man is a prophet, a seer, and a revelator for the whole earth. He is the Savior’s intermediary tasked with delivering the Lord’s current will to mankind, teaching His doctrine, and presiding over the gathering of Israel prior to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. This man serves as the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is the burgeoning Kingdom of God that will stand through the Millennium. Today, Russell M. Nelson is the individual called of God to lead His earthly Church, speak in His holy name, and hold the keys of Priesthood authority to perform saving Gospel ordinances.

Russell M. Nelson is not a name familiar to most people. Yet, this humble man is the one chosen by Jehovah to preside over His affairs. He is the Lord’s captain and commanding officer. He is the one selected, as Peter of old, to sit in the presidency of the Savior’s Church and administer His ordinances of salvation.

It is my desire to help you understand who President Nelson is, what he has been teaching, and why your attention should be riveted on him more than on any other person currently living. I also wish to bear my personal witness that Russell M. Nelson is indeed a prophet in every sense of the word; an inspired man like Moses, Abraham, or Isaiah. Not only is he a prophet, he is the prophet called by the resurrected Redeemer to speak to the world on His behalf at this hour.

Before speaking specifically about President Nelson, a word about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over which he presides is in order. A century after Christ, the Church He established fell into disarray and apostasy. The New Testament writers frequently warned of impending apostasy. Indeed, some lamented that the various branches of the Church were already accepting false teachers and falling into wickedness. One cannot read the New Testament without encountering these warnings and prophesies.

During His earthly ministry, the Lord ordained twelve apostles to lead His Church. He set Peter at their head to serve as the prophet and presiding authority. In his capacity as president of the Church, Peter received revelation as needed and directed the affairs of the Church. To cite one example, Peter received the revelation that it was time to take the Gospel to the gentiles. This pattern of continuing revelation was to mark the Lord’s Church, as was leadership via a duly ordained prophet and body of twelve apostles.

Eventually, Peter, the Lord’s prophet, was taken and murdered. James, Philip, Andrew, Paul, and the rest of the apostles, except John who was not slain but went on to higher work, were martyred for their testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ. In the wake of their murders and the consequent dissolution of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, who was left to lead the Lord’s Church? Who was left with the Priesthood authority to preside over the Church and officiate in essential ordinances? The sad answer is that no one was called by the Lord to fill these indispensable offices. No one was ordained in the proper way by others holding the same apostolic authority. Tragically, the Lord’s line of Priesthood authority ended with the death of the last apostle.

Inasmuch as Peter and the other apostles received their authority directly under the hands of the Savior, it was necessary that either they or Jesus personally extended the same authority to others. The resurrected Lord did not do so, as all sects admit the apostolic line ended. Furthermore, there is no record that Peter and his associates conferred their authority on successors either. Hence, the keys of the Priesthood authority – that power and authority necessary to officiate in saving ordinances like baptism and conferring the Holy Ghost – was lost and could only be restored by divine manifestation.

Though the bishop of Rome and others subsequently claimed authority to lead the Church, the apostasy overtook it as the New Testament writers prophesied would happen. As a brief historical note, the bishop of Rome was not an apostle, lacked apostolic authority to govern the Lord’s Church, and tried to make his claim while John, an authentic apostle and successor to Peter, was yet alive – thus making him an impostor. His claim, and those of his direct papal successors, is, thus, null and void. No other claimant to this sacred authority last held by John can be identified, nor was the body of twelve apostles perpetuated as established by the Savior.

This wholesale apostasy necessitated not a mere reformation, but a full restoration of the Gospel with its authority, ordinances, and gifts. This pattern of apostasy, loss of authority, and later restoration by divine manifestation through a newly called prophet, occurred several times in Biblical history, so it should not be surprising to any diligent student of the Bible that yet another apostasy, followed by a restoration, happened after the death of the apostles. John, in fact, prophesied of a future restoration. He foretold:

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people” (Revelation 14:6).

Surely one cannot believe that the Apostle John, a legal administrator of the Gospel, would speak of the need for an angel to come declaring the Gospel if that Gospel was intended to exist in an unbroken line as is generally supposed. The fact is, as John knew and spoke of, and as Peter and Paul and others testified, that the Lord’s Church would be lost from the earth and would need to be restored by Heavenly intervention and the appearance of angels.

Thankfully for the world, the Lord fulfilled His promise and the “everlasting gospel” was restored to the earth in 1830 through the instrumentality of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith began his unassuming life as a poor, hard-working farm boy. He became interested in the salvation of his soul, talked to pastors, attended various churches, and prayed to God to know which of all the contending sects was correct and which he should join.

In answer to his simple, faith-filled prayer, the Lord personally appeared to Joseph Smith in a grove of trees near Palmyra, New York. Both the Father and the Son appeared in a powerful manifestation that forever changed the world. The Lord explained to Joseph that all the churches had gone astray. They professed His name, but lacked His authority. The Lord therefore called Joseph to be His prophet to restore His Gospel in its authoritative fullness.

In subsequent years after this First Vision, an angel named Moroni did appear and delivered sacred teachings and writings to Joseph Smith. The most significant of these was an ancient record of the former inhabitants of America, who were Israelites led to this land by the Lord around 600 B.C. They worshiped Christ, had prophets, and were some of the “other sheep” the Savior spoke of during His ministry (John 10:16). Their record, which came to be called The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, was a direct fulfillment of Ezekiel’s prophecy that the “stick of Judah” (the Bible) and the “stick of Joseph” (The Book of Mormon), would “be one” in the Lord’s hand (Ezekiel 37:15-19).

In a modern revelation, the Lord confirmed:

“And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel” (Doctrine and Covenants 42:12).

Together, as one, the Bible and The Book of Mormon come together to testify of Jesus Christ, clarify His doctrines, encourage mankind to repent and turn to Him for salvation, expose His enemies and false doctrines, and inspire His disciples to serve Him and preach the Gospel in all the world. While The Book of Mormon is derided, falsely, as a non-Christian book, it in fact speaks of Jesus Christ more frequently than the Bible. It powerfully confirms the Bible’s testimony that only in and through Jesus Christ can we be saved. We find such teachings as the following littered throughout the pages of this holy book:

“[W]e labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved after [i.e. notwithstanding] all we can do. . . .

“And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. . . .

“. . . the right way is to believe in Christ and deny him not; for by denying him ye also deny the prophets and the law.

“And now, behold, I say unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not; and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your whole soul; and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out” (2 Nephi 25:23-29).

Thus, as John prophesied, an angel flying in the heavens proclaimed the “everlasting gospel” to the inhabitants of the earth once more in 1830. Joseph Smith was the instrument for bringing forward companion scripture to the Bible. Together, these two sacred volumes confound false doctrines and point our souls to Jesus Christ, our Master.

Not only was additional scripture given to support the Bible’s witness, but the same sacred authority that Jesus gave to His ancient apostles was restored to the earth. Peter, James, and John, the last ones to hold the Priesthood authority before the apostasy, appeared to confer their authority on Joseph Smith and a man named Oliver Cowdery, both of whom witnessed often of this event. Through these and other divinely inspired events and endowments of authority, the Lord’s Church was restored once more, being called, by Him, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It is this Church organization, restored in our time with its Priesthood authority, saving ordinances, spiritual gifts, and pristine doctrines which break through the confusion of centuries of apostasy, that is headed today by President Russell M. Nelson. It is this Church which contains a prophet, a Quorum of Twelve Apostles, Quorums of Seventy elders, ordained patriarchs, teachers, and deacons, and so forth, just as we find in the Bible’s record of the early Church. This truly is the Lord’s Church and matches the Biblical description to a T.

Since the appearance of Peter, James, and John to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, the Priesthood has been handed down in an unbroken line of succession. Seventeen men have been called as prophets in this final Gospel Dispensation. Today, the office of prophet is held by President Nelson.

The vibrant and fit Russell Marion Nelson will turn ninety-six years old on September 9th of this year. In terms of worldly accomplishments, President Nelson is much respected. He was a world-renowned heart surgeon who helped pioneer the art of heart surgery. He was elected the president of the Society of Vascular Surgery in 1975 and has held other prestigious medical titles and posts. He holds a PhD as well as other honorary degrees from multiple universities. He is an author of numerous books. He served in the Korean War as an Army surgeon, speaks six languages, has visited over 130 nations, and fathered ten children.

In spite of his remarkable professional and personal achievements, the Lord called him into the apostleship for other less tangible reasons. President Nelson’s ability to receive revelation is, simply, remarkable. Since becoming the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has instituted radical changes in Church format and focus not seen in generations. He has introduced numerous programs, alterations, and proclamations via revelation. He has been called “Moses in a business suit.”

In an uncharacteristically good CNN article penned in 2019 after President Nelson announced a certain change in Church presentation, we find the following description of how readily this prophet receives and follows revelation:

“When the messages come during the dark of the night, Russell M. Nelson reaches for his lighted pen and takes dictation from the Lord.

““Ok dear, it’s happening,” the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tells his wife, Wendy Nelson.

““I just remain quiet and soon he’s sitting up at the side of the bed, writing,” she said in a recent church video.

“Sometimes the spirit prompts the prophet’s wife the leave the bed, though she’d rather sleep. One such morning, Wendy Nelson told Mormon leaders, her husband emerged form the bedroom waving a yellow notebook.

““Wendy, you won’t believe what’s been happening for two hours,” she recalled Russell Nelson saying. “The Lord has given me detailed instructions on a process I am to follow.”

“Nelson’s nighttime messages have “increased exponentially,” his wife said. . . .

“One of the things the Spirit has repeatedly impressed upon my mind since my new calling as President of the Church,” Nelson said, “is how willing the Lord is to reveal His mind and will.”

In the Bible, the Apostle James testified that if anyone wanted knowledge, they could merely ask God in prayer and He would give it to them (James 1:5). President Nelson has put this principle into action and has become a veritable conduit for Heavenly communication. The CNN article then continued with an observation about why President Nelson is unique among world religious leaders:

“Lots of religions talk about revelations. They fill much of the New Testament’s last book and many parts of the older Hebrew Bible, from the burning bush that inspired Moses to the “still, small voice” who whispered to Elijah.

“But many modern believers consider both Bibles to be closed canons, the last words we’ll hear from God before the final trumpet blows. . . .

“Latter-day Saints, as they prefer to be called, believe in continuing revelation. Their canon is open, ready to be revised or supplemented by its top cadre of leaders, first among whom is the church’s president, who is considered a “prophet, seer and revelator.” . . . .

““There’s no mistaking it, this is Moses in a business suit,” [historian Kathleen] Flake said of the Mormon presidency, “someone who can lead people, write Scripture and talk to God.””

Yes, it is a unique point of Latter-day Saint doctrine that the windows of Heaven are not closed. God speaks to His children today just as He did anciently. Jesus Christ leads His Church by revelation through prophets just as He in days past through Peter, Moses, Samuel, Jeremiah, and other seers. Today, the Lord’s will is made known through modern prophets when it is needed in this work of gathering the souls of men into the Good Shepherd’s fold. Often, however, the occasion for announcements, alterations to programs, or renewed emphasis on eternal principles, comes during what we call General Conference.

Twice annually, the apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by the prophet-president, gather with Church members to expound doctrine and clarify the current will of the Lord. It is in these General Conferences that we can most easily see what the Lord wants His Twenty-First Century followers to be focused on.

Since his call to the apostleship in April, 1984, President Nelson has delivered 91 General Conference addresses. Twenty-one of those talks were given since he was sustained as the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January of 2018. What has been President Nelson’s general theme or message as the prophet?

Since 2018, there has been a flood of light and revelation. It is difficult to point to one single teaching that has predominated. However, we can narrow it down to several that often rise to the top. I mention six, in no particular order:

1. The Gathering of Israel

2. Ministering

3. Receiving revelation

4. Home-centered, Church-supported worship

5. Repentance

6. Staying on the Covenant Path

1. The Gathering of Israel

President Nelson has made it clear that the gathering of Israel, that is, bringing the Lord’s sheep into His Church, is the most important work in all the world. During a worldwide youth devotional on June 3, 2018, the prophet told the youth of the Church:

“My dear young brothers and sisters, these surely are the latter days, and the Lord is hastening His work to gather Israel. That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty. And if you choose to, if you want to, you can be a big part of it. . . .

“When we speak of the gathering, we are simply saying this fundamental truth: every one of our Heavenly Father’s children, on both sides of the veil, deserves to hear the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. They decide for themselves if they want to know more.

“Those whose lineage is from the various tribes of Israel are those whose hearts will most likely be turned to the Lord. He said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Those who are of the house of Israel will most easily recognize the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and will desire to be gathered into His fold. They will want to become members of His Church, make covenants with Him and Heavenly Father, and receive their essential ordinances.”

President Nelson went on to call the gathering of Israel “the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on earth today.” To accomplish this great work, the prophet invited the youth to join what he termed the “youth battalion of the Lord.” He also called it “Zion’s army.”

Both youth and adults have been called to enlist in the titanic effort to bring people into the Church. In the October, 2018 Conference, President Nelson specifically invited the women of the Church to engage in this great work, stating: “I’m extending a prophetic plea to you, the women of the Church, to shape the future by helping to gather scattered Israel.”

It is our work as members of the Church to gather Israel; that is, to gather those who, according to the promises given to Abraham, have a right to hear the Gospel. As full-time missionaries, in our daily lives, and in our all-important roles as fathers and mothers, it is our job to hunt out the true believers – even in our own homes – and share with them the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ so that they may choose to embrace it, repent, and be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There is no greater work in all the world!

2. Ministering

In 1964, the home teaching program was instituted. Under this program, members of the Church were organized with companions to go meet with other ward members and their families once a month. Home teaching was one of the mainstays of the Church. True to form, however, President Nelson announced the end of home teaching during his first General Conference presiding over the Church, replacing it with a simper system called “ministering.” He remarked:

“We have made the decision to retire home teaching and visiting teaching as we have known them. Instead, we will implement a newer, holier approach to caring for and ministering to others. We will refer to these efforts simply as “ministering.””

In another address in the same Conference, President Nelson explained the need for this “holier” system of ministering:

“Brethren, we hold the holy priesthood of God! We have His authority to bless His people. Just think of the remarkable assurance the Lord gave us when He said, “Whomsoever you bless I will bless.” It is our privilege to act in the name of Jesus Christ to bless God’s children according to His will for them. . . .

“To all brethren holding the priesthood, I invite you to inspire members to keep their covenants, fast and pray, study the scriptures, worship in the temple, and serve with faith as men and women of God. We can help all to see with the eye of faith that obedience and righteousness will draw them closer to Jesus Christ, allow them to enjoy the companionship of the Holy Ghost, and experience joy in life!

“A hallmark of the Lord’s true and living Church will always be an organized, directed effort to minister to individual children of God and their families. Because it is His Church, we as His servants will minister to the one, just as He did. We will minister in His name, with His power and authority, and with His loving-kindness. . . .

“Brethren, there are doors we can open, priesthood blessings we can give, hearts we can heal, burdens we can lift, testimonies we can strengthen, lives we can save, and joy we can bring into the homes of the Latter-day Saints—all because we hold the priesthood of God. We are the men who have been “called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of [our] exceeding faith,” to do this work.”

As can be seen, this higher and holier system of ministering does not give us a pass or an excuse to relax, but, rather, increases our level of responsibility and the urgency with which we must serve. President Nelson has emphatically pleaded with us to become purer that we may have more spiritual power to bless those around us. Jesus went about doing good, blessing people, healing the sick, uplifting the downtrodden, and spreading light, and it is the duty of those who hold His Priesthood to also do good to our fellow brothers and sisters. We can and should minister to all within our sphere of influence, as our prophet has clearly directed.

3. Receiving Revelation

In October, 2018, President Nelson delivered an address titled “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives,” in which he taught:

“Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.

“My beloved brothers and sisters, I plead with you to increase your spiritual capacity to receive revelation . . . Choose to do the spiritual work required to enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost and hear the voice of the Spirit more frequently and more clearly.”

He also stated:

“One of the things the Spirit has repeatedly impressed upon my mind since my new calling as President of the Church is how willing the Lord is to reveal His mind and will. The privilege of receiving revelation is one of the greatest gifts of God to His children.”

In the April, 2020, General Conference, President Nelson again pleaded with us to make the necessary sacrifices to receive revelation. Said he:

“We also hear Him more clearly as we refine our ability to recognize the whisperings of the Holy Ghost. It has never been more imperative to know how the Spirit speaks to you than right now. In the Godhead, the Holy Ghost is the messenger. He will bring thoughts to your mind which the Father and Son want you to receive. He is the Comforter. He will bring a feeling of peace to your heart. He testifies of truth and will confirm what is true as you hear and read the word of the Lord.

“I renew my plea for you to do whatever it takes to increase your spiritual capacity to receive personal revelation.

“Doing so will help you know how to move ahead with your life, what to do during times of crisis, and how to discern and avoid the temptations and the deceptions of the adversary. . . .

“What will happen as you more intentionally hear, hearken, and heed what the Savior has said and what He is saying now through His prophets? I promise that you will be blessed with additional power to deal with temptation, struggles, and weakness. I promise miracles in your marriage, family relationships, and daily work. And I promise that your capacity to feel joy will increase even if turbulence increases in your life.”

It was during this talk that President Nelson said the Restoration of the Gospel is an “ongoing process.” Indeed, he had previously remarked:

“We are witnesses to a process of restoration. If you think the Church has been fully restored, you are just seeing the beginning. There is much more to come.”

4. Home-centered, Church-supported worship

In October, 2018, President Nelson made a major change to Church worship. For decades, the Saints have met for three hours every Sunday. Acting under inspiration, President Nelson reduced the three-hour block to two. Simultaneously, he introduced a program for home-centered, church-supported worship. A family study manual, Come Follow Me, was unveiled. Instead of three hours in meeting houses, allotment was made for a two-hour worship meeting to supplement and support each individual family’s own home meeting. In these home meetings, families are expected to read and discuss the scriptures.

As part of the announcement for this change, President Nelson explained:

“As Latter-day Saints, we have become accustomed to thinking of “church” as something that happens in our meetinghouses, supported by what happens at home. We need an adjustment to this pattern. It is time for a home-centered Church, supported by what takes place inside our branch, ward, and stake buildings.”

I personally love this change and the greater emphasis on home-centered Gospel study. When I was fourteen, my family moved to Port Lions, Alaska. We were the lone members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in our small fishing village. It was too costly and difficult to travel by boat or plane into the nearest location that had a formal congregation. Consequently, my Dad received permission from Church authorities to hold meetings in our home. And so, for ten years, my family held Church in our home for three hours every Sunday. We had all the meetings and even performed primary programs. My Mom also taught seminary to me and my siblings. It was a bonding experience like no other. So, when the announcement for home-centered, Church-supported worship was handed down, I could only say, “It’s about time!”

The Come Follow Me program essentially prepared Church members worldwide for a day when they might be compelled to host worship services in their own homes. That day came sooner than many expected. When governments tyrannically forced churches into closure due to overblown and unfounded “Coronavirus” fears, the Church complied with the orders, unjust as they were, and authorized Priesthood holders to hold sacrament meetings in their homes while continuing the Come Follow Me program.

5. Repentance

In a landmark address to the men of the Church in April, 2019, President Nelson highlighted the need for daily, constant repentance. He spoke of the power that lies in repentance. He taught:

“Recently I have found myself drawn to the Lord’s instruction given through the Prophet Joseph Smith: “Say nothing but repentance unto this generation.” This declaration is often repeated throughout scripture. It prompts an obvious question: “Does everyone need to repent?” The answer is yes.

“Too many people consider repentance as punishment—something to be avoided except in the most serious circumstances. But this feeling of being penalized is engendered by Satan. He tries to block us from looking to Jesus Christ, who stands with open arms, hoping and willing to heal, forgive, cleanse, strengthen, purify, and sanctify us.

“The word for repentance in the Greek New Testament is metanoeo. The prefix meta– means “change.” The suffix –noeo is related to Greek words that mean “mind,” “knowledge,” “spirit,” and “breath.”

“Thus, when Jesus asks you and me to “repent,” He is inviting us to change our mind, our knowledge, our spirit—even the way we breathe. He is asking us to change the way we love, think, serve, spend our time, treat our wives, teach our children, and even care for our bodies.

“Nothing is more liberating, more ennobling, or more crucial to our individual progression than is a regular, daily focus on repentance. Repentance is not an event; it is a process. It is the key to happiness and peace of mind. When coupled with faith, repentance opens our access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. . . .

“Brethren, we need to do better and be better because we are in a battle. The battle with sin is real. The adversary is quadrupling his efforts to disrupt testimonies and impede the work of the Lord. He is arming his minions with potent weapons to keep us from partaking of the joy and love of the Lord.10

“Repentance is the key to avoiding misery inflicted by traps of the adversary. The Lord does not expect perfection from us at this point in our eternal progression. But He does expect us to become increasingly pure. Daily repentance is the pathway to purity, and purity brings power. Personal purity can make us powerful tools in the hands of God. Our repentance—our purity—will empower us to help in the gathering of Israel.”

Repentance has certainly been necessary at any time in history, but it is especially important at this crucial juncture before the return of our Lord. If we heed the prophet’s words, we will have the purity and, thus, the power, necessary to defeat our enemies as true Christian soldiers.

6. Staying on the Covenant Path

In conjunction with repentance, President Nelson has spoken often of the “covenant path” of the Gospel. He has encouraged people everywhere to make formal covenants with the Lord through baptism, temple ordinances, etc., and then stay true to those covenants. In his first formal message as president of the Church, President Nelson said:

“[T]o each member of the Church I say, keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women, and children everywhere.

“. . . The end for which each of us strives is to be endowed with power in a house of the Lord, sealed as families, faithful to covenants made in a temple that qualify us for the greatest gift of God – that of eternal life. The ordinances of the temple and the covenants you make there are key to strengthening your life, your marriage and family, and your ability to resist the attacks of the adversary. Your worship in the temple and your service there for your ancestors will bless you with increased personal revelation and peace and will fortify your commitment to stay on the covenant path.

“Now, if you have stepped off the path, may I invite you with all the hope in my heart to please come back. Whatever your concerns, whatever your challenges, there is a place for you in this, the Lord’s Church. You and generations yet unborn will be blessed by your actions now to return to the covenant path.. Our Father in Heaven cherishes His children, and He wants each of us to return home to Him. This is a grand goal of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – to help each of us to come back home.”

Three months later, in his first General Conference as president of the Church, President Nelson built upon this teaching when he declared:

“Our message to the world is simple and sincere: we invite all of God’s children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior, receive the blessings of the holy temple, have enduring joy, and qualify for eternal life.

“Eventual exaltation requires our complete fidelity now to covenants we make and ordinances we receive in the house of the Lord.”

The rapid building of temples could very well be added to our list of President Nelson’s emphases considering the dozens of temples he has announced, including temples in China, Russia, India, and the Middle East. The purpose of temples, however, is to provide a sacred place in which to make covenants with the Lord. These covenants could be given on a mountain top or in a broom closet and it would make little difference if performed by God’s Priesthood authority and power. From the very beginning, President Nelson has attempted to focus our minds on the overarching importance of covenants.

Finally, in the same talk to the men referenced above, President Nelson yet again extended the invitation to return to and stay on the covenant path of discipleship:

“Whether you are diligently moving along the covenant path, have slipped or stepped from the covenant path, or can’t even see the path from where you are now, I plead with you to repent. Experience the strengthening power of daily repentance—of doing and being a little better each day.”

This is the grand message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that all of us, regardless of where we are in our journey, may repent, change, and be made whole. The Lord taught: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:17). The word “whosoever” is significant. The invitation to come unto Christ and be healed is not reserved for a select few, but for any and every soul. Everyone who desires, may come to Jesus the Christ and, through faith and ordinances, be saved.

President Nelson has caught the divine vision and is attempting to bring us to the Savior. He wants us to gather together into the Lord’s Church. He wants us to minister to one another as Christ did. He wants us to qualify ourselves to receive personal revelation for our lives. He wants us to make our homes places of Gospel light, learning, and love. He wants us to repent and turn our hearts to God. And he wants us to make and keep sacred covenants so that we may, with our families, qualify to return to our Father in Heaven’s home.

This wonderful man of God has delivered many powerful sermons, trekked around the world uplifting people, and spent his life in the service of others and of the Lord. Since 1984, President Nelson has devoted his life to full-time ministry. As the apostles of old who went into all the world, without thought of themselves, to share the Lord’s light, President Nelson has been a beacon of hope, light, and love to millions of human beings on all continents.

I share my testimony which I have through the burning witness of the Holy Spirit that Russell M. Nelson is not only a learned man with many accomplishments under his belt, but a humble, inspired man of God. He radiates hope, confidence, and power. He is surrounded by light and carries the presence of the Savior with him.

I know President Nelson is a chosen vessel to lead the Lord’s Church at this very moment in time. He is not only a prophet, seer, and revelator, but he is the prophet on earth – the one man called, ordained, and authorized to speak in the name of the Lord. No president, no king, no sheikh, no pope, no dictator, possesses the same level of authority or power that President Nelson does, for his Priesthood is binding on earth and in Heaven. No one’s words are as important in your as President Russell M. Nelson’s.

Rivet your eyes on the prophet of God. Don’t let your gaze fall. Focus on the captain of the Lord’s Battalion, the commander of Zion’s Army. I give my witness that the Lord speaks through him, that he holds the keys of the Priesthood with its saving ordinances, and that we can know the will of our Master by hearkening to the words of President Russell M. Nelson. We can trust and follow him because he trusts and follows so closely behind our Savior, Jesus Christ, the very Lord who called him to His glorious ministry. I sustain him, the office he holds, and the Lord who called him, now and forever.

I express special gratitude to the Lord Jesus Christ. I am thankful for His loving-kindness and for His open invitation to come unto Him. I marvel at His matchless power to heal. I testify of Jesus Christ as the Master Healer. It is but one of many attributes that characterize His incomparable life.

Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God, the Creator, the great Jehovah, the promised Immanuel, our atoning Savior and Redeemer, our Advocate with the Father, our great Exemplar. And one day we will stand before Him as our just and merciful Judge. . . .

Kyle Rittenhouse – Hero

You may not yet know his name, but you have seen his story. On the night of August 25, Kyle Rittenhouse, a trained EMT, was in Kenosha, Wisconsin with a group of armed Libertarians to keep the peace, protect property, and offer medical help during a violent Black Lives Matter and Antifa riot staged after a justified, non-lethal police shooting days earlier. Kyle, a seventeen-year-old young man, was pepper sprayed in the face, yet still offered his medical services. In the course of the night, Kyle was chased by a repeat sex offender and, later, a bloodthirsty mob. In both situations, Kyle defended himself, leaving one pedophile and one criminal dead, and one felonious thug injured for life. Kyle Rittenhouse is a hero and epitomizes the true American spirit.

As noted, Kyle Rittenhouse was with a group of armed American citizens, wrongly called a “militia” by the media – as if that’s a bad thing. Ironically, this Libertarian group actually showed up in support of the rioters. They sided with their anti-government stance. However, they repeatedly clarified on video that the local shops, businesses, and residences were not fair game for destruction. After explaining his position in more depth, one of their number yelled to the mob of violent rioters: I’m on your side as long as you’re against the cops, but you can’t burn down your local businesses!”

This was Kyle’s basic position as well. On video, before the shootings, Kyle said that he had been pepper sprayed by a rioter. He also said: “We’re protecting from the citizens.” He was then asked: “So, you guys are full-on ready to defend the property?” Kyle responded: “Yes we are.” He also explained:

So, people are getting injured and our job is to protect this business. And part of my job is to also help people. If there’s somebody hurt, I’m running into harm’s way. That’s why I have my rifle because I need to protect myself obviously. I also have my med kit.”

That is Kyle Rittenhouse – a young man risking his own life to help injured people during a riot. His motive was not to shoot anyone. He was not there to “murder” people. He is not a racist or “white supremacist” as the media, and even traitors in government, has been screeching. Don’t believe the slander and libel being spewed by the controlled press, the same controlled press that brands anyone who opposes communism or loves America a “Nazi,” “fascist,” “white supremacist,” or “anti-Semite.”

Now that we know something of Kyle Rittenhouse, a hero by any other name, let’s talk about the incident and the criminals who met their fate at Kyle’s hands. At some point during the night, a conflict broke out. On video, we see Kyle running away from the conflict, trying to avoid a fight. He is pursued by Joseph Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum threw an object at him as they enter a parking lot by some accounts, the object was an improvised Molotov cocktail in a bag.

Next, a shot rings out. This is a crucial detail. Kyle Rittenhouse did not fire the first shot. We still do not know who fired that first shot, though the video appears to show one of the rioters behind Kyle aiming a pistol in the air. A moment later, as Rosenbaum nears Kyle, Kyle shoots four times in self-defense, hitting Rosenbaum in the head. Then we hear several other shots, again from an unknown shooter.

Immediately, Kyle approached Rosenbaum, surveyed the situation, and pulled out his phone. He called the police and reported that he just shot someone. As enraged rioters began swarming into the area, Kyle, fearing for his life, fled the scene. It appears he was running to the police position down the street. As he ran towards the flashing lights, he had to pass through a mob. As he does, someone yells out that he’s the shooter. Others say, “Get him!”

At this point, one of the rioters tries to punch Kyle in the back of the head. As Kyle tries to turn around, he trips and falls on the ground. A black man then jumps on top of him, trying to stomp him on the face. It appears Kyle fired a shot. Then another man, Anthony Huber, struck Kyle in the head with a skateboard. Huber then attempted to wrestle Kyle’s gun from his hands. Kyle, who had just been attacked by Huber, fired at him, hitting him in the chest. A third man, Gaige P. Grosskreutz, approached. Grosskreutz was clearly holding a pistol. Kyle did not fire at him immediately. But when Grosskreutz rushed him, holding a pistol, Kyle fired again, striking Grosskreutz in the arm.

Kyle then got up, surveyed the scene, and began to retreat toward the police position. Then you can hear other gun shots break out. We do not know yet who fired those shots, just as we don’t know who fired the first shot earlier. But someone else shot first, before Kyle, fired again after Kyle first shot, then later shot some more at the end of the altercation. Kyle next walked to the police cars and turned himself in. Hardly the actions of a “murder”!

As a point of irony, the first thing these street thugs did when shots were fired was cry, “Call the police!” I thought they wanted to defund the police. I thought they’ve waged a running battle with police nationwide this summer, attacking them, occupying their precinct buildings, burning their cars, blinding them with lasers, and calling them all “bastards” who work for an “institutionally racist” system. Yet, the moment a real man stands up to their tyranny in the American tradition, they scatter and cry for the police to save them. Hypocrites!

Who were the three shooting “victims”? Let’s give a brief overview of these criminals. Joseph Rosenbaum was a level 3 pedophile for sex offenses against a child. He should not have been on the streets, but such is our “justice” system. Though being a sex offender should be enough to keep him behind bars or put him six feet under for the public’s safety, he also had a criminal record which included drug possession, arson, and assault if you include his attempt to harm Kyle Rittenhouse. Rosenbaum is deceased.

The second man, Anthony Huber, likewise had a criminal record. He was convicted on two domestic abuse and battery cases, which included strangulation and suffocation. He was only sentenced to two years for his violent crimes. He was also a known druggie, apprehended in possession of drug paraphernalia. You can add attempted murder to the list when you consider his attack on Kyle Rittenhouse. He is also deceased.

Finally, Gaige P. Grosskreutz was a felon and house burglar. He also belongs to the Marxist group known as The People’s Revolution, which has rioted for more consecutive days since George Floyd died of a drug overdose while in police custody than any other radical group in the nation. Grosskreutz’s right bicep was nearly totally blown off. As one internet punster said, he will now always be a leftie – referring to the fact that he is a far-left radical and will probably never use his right arm again.

Anthony Huber, it appears, was Jewish. There is speculation that Rosenbaum was also Jewish, though the Jewish Chronicle published a story, which now only shows a 404 error message, claiming he was not from a “practicing Jewish family,” but that there “may be a mix of German and Jewish heritage in the past,” according to his cousin. There has also been a claim that Grosskreutz was a Jew, though I’ve yet to see evidence. I mention this because of how prevalent Jewish ethnicity is among communists. Antifa was founded by radical Marxist Jews. Karl Marx himself was a Jew. Most prominent communist revolutionaries in the Soviet Union, in fact, were Jews. Though this is not the right place to delve into the matter, the Judeo-communist connection is worth noting for context’s sake.

The thug Grosskreutz, who survived Kyle Rittenhouse’s defensive bullet to the arm, said that his only regret was not murdering the young man when he had the chance. Specifically, his revolutionary comrade stated:

So, the kid shot Gaige as he drew his weapon and Gaige retreated with his gun in his hand. I just talked to [Gaige] too–his only regret was not killing the kid and hesitating to pull the gun before emptying the entire mag into him. Coward.”

Again, shooting someone who has a gun aimed at you is the very essence of justification! And more so when it’s a revolutionary communist in the act of rioting.

Because he defended his life against violent attackers with long criminals records, Kyle has been arrested and is being charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Yes, you read that correctly. He has been slapped with six separate charges, including first-degree intentional homicide. This is how our “justice” system works. This is how the courts, which are controlled by traitors and communist conspirators, operate. A young man can be chased, fired upon, attacked, kicked, hit, and then uses lethal force to defend himself, and yet he is charged with a crime. This is the epitome of injustice!

I call upon President Trump to immediately pardon Kyle Rittenhouse before this charade goes any farther. Any objective viewing of the videos and known facts in the case must yield the conclusion that Kyle is an innocent young man who did nothing more than defend his life against violent criminals, pedophiles, and insurrectionists. Even if the three casualties did not have criminal records for which they should have been behind bars already and not on the streets where they could riot, harm people, and endanger society, their vicious attacks on this young man would still have justified his level of self-defense.

I repeat a fact stated earlier: Kyle Rittenhouse did not fire the first shot. This is HUGE! When you are being pursued by a threatening individual during a violent riot, and you hear a gunshot go off right behind you, you have a perfectly reasonable fear that your life is in immediate danger. In that situation, you not only can, but should, in my opinion, err on the side of using lethal force to defend yourself. Any intelligent jury would agree that the context warranted a high level of defensive force.

Even an analyst from the socialist New York Times acknowledged that Kyle did not shoot first, but only fired his first shots after at least one other gunshot had been fired near him. As summarized by Paul Joseph Watson:

Now new analysis of footage that preceded Rittenhouse discharging his AR-15 by New York Times Visual Investigations journalist Christiaan Triebert shows that the 17-year-old did not shoot first.

““At 23:19, Rittenhouse is seen in this YouTube livestream. He’s being chased into a parking lot. While he is being pursued, an unknown gunman fires the first shot into the air,” tweeted Triebert.

The muzzle flash of the first shot can also be seen in the video from a different angle.

Rittenhouse has been charged with 1st degree murder, presumably to satiate the Black Lives Matter mob, but all the evidence clearly shows he acted in self-defense.

One wonders if the media will acknowledge that there were at least two gunmen involved in the confrontation and that the one pursuing Rittenhouse fired his weapon first.”

No, the controlled media won’t report the facts because these facts obliterate their concocted narrative. These facts would destroy their slander that Kyle Rittenhouse was a “white supremacist.” The known reality, if reported truthfully, would abolish the idea that Kyle was an evil-intentioned militiaman looking for a fight. In truth, Kyle did everything he could to avoid a confrontation, only firing when in immediate danger from a pedophile and from a mob. What honest, rational person can possibly condemn him?

Thankfully, attorney Lin Wood, who successfully defended Nick Sandmann against media defamation, has stepped in to defend Kyle from the vile deluge of lies being shoveled by the Marxist media. Mr. Wood correctly articulated the view all real Americans should take: “If Kyle cannot defend himself under the circumstances shown in videos, we are all at risk.” When communists control the courts and the media, any patriot who defends himself against the mob is liable to be punished – unless we force this treasonous element into retreat. Truly, if justice is not served for Kyle Rittenhouse, we cannot claim justice exists anymore in America.

Lastly, I’ll share an observation made online that is actually quite astute. In a Bitchute comment on a video related to the incident, someone said that Kyle Rittenhouse is America’s version of Greta Thunberg. The contrast is fitting. Whereas socialist Scandinavia is represented by a screaming, delusional girl promoting the Marxist global warming agenda and calling for government intervention in our lives, America is represented by a sharp, disciplined young man offering help in dangerous situations and ultimately using his God-given right of self-defense to kill pedophiles and felons and secure his Independence.

May God help the soul who sees Greta Thunberg as a hero while demeaning Kyle Rittenhouse as a villain. The inverse is the truth. Kyle Rittenhouse is a hero. He should be pardoned by President Trump and given a reward for his service to the country. He’s a symbol of American manhood, though technically still a boy. He’s the hero we need.

Will American men rise up, like Kyle, in defense of their communities against the communist tsunami of violence and insurrection? Will we do what is necessary to rid our society of Marxist traitors, impenitent pedophiles, and violent rioters? Will we allow an innocent young man like Kyle Rittenhouse to go to prison for life on ludicrous “homicide” charges when we have abundant evidence that he only acted in self-defense? Communism is Treason!

August 24 marks sixty-six years since President Eisenhower signed the Communist Control Act into law. Controlled press outlets from the New York Times to the Wall Street Journal excoriated the Act when it passed Congress, powerful think tanks and lobbying groups rose up in protest, and it was ultimately never enforced except in a handful of cases. I contend that expanding the Communist Control Act’s scope and power, and then strictly enforcing it in order to criminalize communism, is the only way America will survive the coming cataclysm planned by the enemies among us. The war cry of every patriotic American must become: Communism is treason; death to communism!

The Communist Control Act of 1954 outlawed the Communist Party USA and listed several important reasons why drastic action was needed to root out the communist conspiracy. The relevant portion of the legislation reads:

The Congress hereby finds and declares that the Communist Party of the United States, although purportedly a political party, is in fact an instrumentality of a conspiracy to overthrow the Government of the United States. It constitutes an authoritarian dictatorship within a republic, demanding for itself the rights and privileges accorded to political parties, but denying to all others the liberties guaranteed by the Constitution. Unlike political parties, which evolve their policies and programs through public means, by the reconciliation of a wide variety of individual views, and submit those policies and programs to the electorate at large for approval or disapproval, the policies and programs of the Communist Party are secretly prescribed for it by the foreign leaders of the world Communist movement. Its members have no part in determining its goals, and are not permitted to voice dissent to party objectives. Unlike members of political parties, members of the Communist Party are recruited for indoctrination with respect to its objectives and methods, and are organized, instructed, and disciplined to carry into action slavishly the assignments given them by their hierarchical chieftains. Unlike political parties, the Communist Party acknowledges no constitutional or statutory limitations upon its conduct or upon that of its members. The Communist Party is relatively small numerically, and gives scant indication of capacity ever to attain its ends by lawful political means. The peril inherent in its operation arises not from its numbers, but from its failure to acknowledge any limitation as to the nature of its activities, and its dedication to the proposition that the present constitutional Government of the United States ultimately must be brought to ruin by any available means, including resort to force and violence. Holding that doctrine, its role as the agency of a hostile foreign power renders its existence a clear present and continuing danger to the security of the United States. It is the means whereby individual are seduced into the service of the world Communist movement, trained to do its bidding, and directed and controlled in the conspiratorial performance of their revolutionary services. Therefore, the Communist Party should be outlawed.

The Communist Party of the United States, or any successors of such party regardless of the assumed name, whose object or purpose is to overthrow the Government of the United States, or the government of any State, Territory, District, or possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein by force and violence, are not entitled to any of the rights, privileges, and immunities attendant upon legal bodies created under the jurisdiction of the laws of the United States or any political subdivision thereof; and whatever rights, privileges, and immunities which have heretofore been granted to said party or any subsidiary organization by reason of the laws of the United States or any political subdivision thereof, are hereby terminated. . . .

Whoever knowingly and willfully becomes or remains a member of (1) the Communist Party, or (2) any other organization having for one of its purposes or objectives the establishment, control conduct, seizure, or overthrow of the Government of the United States, or the government of any State or political subdivision thereof, by the use of force or violence, with knowledge of the purpose or objective of such organization shall be subject to all the provisions and penalties of the Internal Security Act of 1950, as amended, as a member of a “Communist-action” organization.

For the purposes of this section, the term “Communist Party” means the organization now known as the Communist Party of the United States of America, the Communist Party of any State or subdivision thereof, and any unit or subdivision of any such organization, whether or not any change is hereafter made in the name thereof.”

Did you catch the difference between a normal political party and the Communist Party? Normal political parties operate democratically and submit their ideas to the American People for approval or disapproval. The Communist Party, by contrast, thumbs its nose at the voice of the People. Instead, it operates on the principle of strict obedience to the dictates of shadowy superiors whose intent is to come to power over the People.

The Communist Party also differs from other political parties in the fact that it cannot peacefully coexist with them. Democrats and Republicans may hate each other, but they tolerate each other’s existence and, ostensibly, defend each other’s right to exist – as well as the right of third parties and independents to share their views. The communists, on the other hand, deny that those whom they deem “class enemies” have any rights at all. They declare themselves alone to be sovereign. They reject the idea of pluralistic society and, instead, seek a total monopoly of political power. To communists, there can be only one voice, one sovereign, one party – the Communist Party.

After stating some of these basic facts, Congress then spelled out thirteen specific actions which would be used to determine one’s “membership or participation” in a prohibited communist organization. I mention only four. An individual who could be investigated and penalized under the CCA is one who has “prepared documents, pamphlets, leaflets, books, or any other type of publication in behalf of the objectives and purposes of the organization,” one who has “mailed, shipped, circulated, distributed, delivered, or in any other way sent or delivered to others material or propaganda of any kind in behalf of the organization,” one who has “indicated by word, action, conduct, writing or in any other way a willingness to carry out in any manner and to any degree the plans, designs, objectives, or purposes of the organization,” or one who has “made financial contribution to the organization in dues, assessments, loans, or in any other form.”

These four points alone are enough to identify and apprehend the communist traitors in our midst. Think of it, anyone who parrots The Communist Manifesto’s threats against free nations and free institutions could be rounded up and prosecuted. Anyone who preached the idea that a small clique of gangsters (i.e. the Communist Party and their abettors) should be in full control of the levers of power could be immediately silenced before he could sew the seeds of contention and civil war. Anyone who marched with authentic symbols of hate like the Soviet hammer and sickle flag, could quickly be identified as an enemy of the Republic. In short order, the subversive communist apparatus, both official and unofficial, could be crushed if we were to enforce the Communist Control Act.

Hundreds of other organizations could be added to the list and many thousands of individuals – including prominent politicians, judges, preachers, businessmen, reporters, actors, and educators – would find their rightful place there as well. The United States, to say nothing of the rest of the world, is infested by communists and their ideological comrades. Today’s gaggle of communist agitators will fulfill Soviet dictator Nikita Khrushchev’s threat to “bury” us if we do not swiftly move against them.

The Communist Control Act is a godsend to the patriot movement! We ought to invoke it immediately to provide for our “common defense” as a free People. In fact, we have an extensive body of anti-communist legislation to call upon to thwart the 21st-Century Reds who are well into the process of destroying our entire civilization.

The CCA was not the first or only anti-communist measure enacted by the U.S. government during the Cold War. The CCA was merely an amendment to the 1950 Internal Security Act, or, Subversive Activities Control Act. Whereas the Internal Security Act broadly targeted subversive organizations, the CCA directly singled out communist organizations, effectively prohibiting them. And the ISA itself was only a follow-up to the 1940 Alien Registration Act with its Smith Act provisions.

The Alien Registration Act required aliens to register with the government. It was popular at the time – and it is still popular today – for “political tourists” to visit the United States and engage in subversive behavior. Two groups in particular, Soviet communists and Jewish radicals from Europe, engaged in this type of criminal conduct. The Smith Act section of the Alien Registration Act targeted those who would fan the flames of sedition and revolution against the government. It read in part:

It shall be unlawful for any person, with intent to interfere with, impair, or influence the loyalty, morale, or discipline of the military or naval forces of the United States. . . .

It shall be unlawful for any person— (1) to knowingly or willfully advocate, abet, advise, or teach the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; (2) with the intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any government in the United States, to print, publish, edit, issue, circulate, sell, distribute, or publicly display any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence. (3) to organize or help to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any government in the United States by force or violence; or to be or become a member of, or affiliate with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof.”

The Smith Act also spoke against conspiracy. This provision was removed years later, but then added again in 1956, penalizing those who engage in conspiracy against the government with a $20,000 fine, twenty years in prison, or both. While the Smith Act seems perfectly reasonable to any patriotic American, portions of it were repealed in the 40s and 50s, and the activist Supreme Court began overturning convictions under its provisions in 1957, allowing violators to go free. Conspiracy, however, is still a crime listed on the books even today.

Numerous court cases variously upheld or undermined certain provisions of these acts. In Communist Party of the United States V. Subversive Activities Control Board in 1961, the CPUSA challenged the 1950 Subversive Activities Control Act. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Act, issuing their opinion that it did not violate the First Amendment to require the Communist Party to register with the Attorney General because the Party’s ideology, communism, was indeed a threat to the nation. As noted, other rulings were not as favorable. But those that were established the precedent that we could use today to enforce these laws to clamp down on the conspiratorial communist movement.

I mention one additional legislative act of peculiar interest to anyone wishing to see the Red Plague of communism swept away. The Emergency Detention Act of 1950 provided for the mass round-up of communists. Six government internment camps were created by the government in anticipation of holding the thousands of communist agitators who would be apprehended. Tragically, the Emergency Detention Act was never utilized and met its demise in September 1971. President Richard Nixon issued a statement when he signed the repeal of the Act, saying in part:

No President has ever attempted to use the provisions of this act. And while six detention camps were established and funded by the Congress, none of them was ever used for the purposes of this legislation. In fact, all six camps have been abandoned or used for other purposes since 1957.

Nevertheless, the mere continued existence of these legal provisions has aroused concern among many Americans that the act might someday be used to apprehend and detain citizens who hold unpopular views.”

That no president in the twenty-one years of the Act’s existence ever attempted to use it to round up and get rid of communist traitors and criminals is a biting indictment on those men, their advisors, and their supporters. Was not their sworn duty to defend the United States against its enemies and to ensure that Americans were secure in their rights? Americans cannot be secure in their God-given rights when communists are allowed to exist alongside them. The Constitution is not safe in a nation that permits communists to exist within its borders. Where communism is, Liberty can never fully shine.

Some believe that detention centers are inherently “unAmerican.” I disagree. When illegal invaders, drug cartel criminals, rapists, and thugs, storm across our Southern border, they are rounded up and placed in detention centers. This should be standard procedure for groups which threaten the nation. Remove them from the general population so they cannot do additional damage, then try them in court according to their crimes.

In 1776, General George Washington led the Continental Army on a campaign to disarm the Tories of Queens County, New York. Yes, George Washington confiscated New Yorkers’ firearms. And why not? It was a war, after all, and the Tories chose the opposing side – the side that advocated monarchy and subjugation to a ruling elite. It’s simply not repugnant to disarm or even arrest your avowed enemies in a time of conflict. And make no mistake, we are at war with the communists.

The great Ezra Taft Benson, who served as President Eisenhower’s Secretary of Agriculture at the time he signed the Communist Control Act into law, explained:

Today we are at war. It is not enough to be against communism. We must shed our complacency and aggressively meet this challenge. . . .

There can be no compromise with the communists. They are at war with us – with the entire cause of freedom, and the sooner every American faces this hard fact, the stronger our position will be. It is a real war. The lines are tightly drawn. The war is more insidious, more devious, more devastating, and more satanical than any war in our history. Moral principles, once universally recognized are ignored. International law once respected is thrown to the wind.

The socialist-communist philosophy is devastatingly evil – destructive of all that is good, uplifting and beautiful. It strikes at the very foundation of all we hold dear” (Ezra Taft Benson, “We Must Become Alerted and Informed,” speech, December 13, 1963).

In his book An Enemy Hath Done This, Benson similarly warned Americans:

Let’s get one thing straight at the very beginning. International communism is the self-avowed enemy of every loyal American. It has declared war against us and fully intends to win. The war in which we are engaged is total. Although its main battlefields are psychological, political and economic, it also encompasses revolution, violence, terror and limited military skirmishes. If we should lose this war, the conquering enemy’s wrath against our people and our institutions will result in one of the greatest blood-baths of all history. Call it a “cold war” if it makes you feel better, but our freedom and our very lives are the stakes of this contest” (Ezra Taft Benson, An Enemy Hath Done This, 165).

Author Fred Schwarz likewise admonished us to wake up to the fact that we are at war, regardless of whether we want to be, because the communists are at war with us, our institutions, and our way of life:

[W]e are confronted with a movement which is frightening in its superb organization, strategic mobility and universal program, but which is perfectly understandable and almost mathematically predictable.

In the battle against Communism, there is no substitute for accurate, specific knowledge. Ignorance is evil and paralytic. The best intentions allied with the most sincere motives are ineffective and futile if they are divorced from adequate knowledge. . . .

[Communists] are extremely trustworthy. You can trust a cancer cell to obey the laws of its lawless growth. You can trust an armed bank robber to take the money and try to escape. Similarly, you can trust the Communists to act in accordance with the laws of their being. . . .

The weapons of this warfare are not merely the classical weapons of guns, tanks, bombs, and aircraft. The weapons are universal. Education is a weapon; language is a weapon; trade is a weapon; diplomacy is a weapon; religion is a weapon; cultural interchange is a weapon. The Communists view every act and judge every situation as part of the class war. When the Bolshoi Ballet performs in the United States, that is an action in the class war; when a group of American clergymen visits Russia, that is an action in the class war; when the Soviet participates in negotiations for “peace,” they fight a battle in the class war. Their participation in the United Nations is part of this warfare. The basic Communist doctrine is: “We are at war!” This is the frame of reference within which every action and thought must be assessed and judged.

It does not take two to make a fight. An idea in the mind of one is enough. . . .

The Communists believe that they are at war with us. This conviction will never be changed in the slightest degree by any action in the Free World . . . We must either recognize this and defend against it, or ignore it and be destroyed. We have no other choice” (Fred Schwarz, You Can Trust the Communists (to be Communists), 1-6).

I say again, there is nothing unAmerican about rounding up those who flout just laws, endanger public order, and commit themselves to overthrowing our Republic. Patriots in the 1940s and 50s realized the need to criminalize communism and outlaw the Communist Party. This they did by enacting the Smith Act in 1940, the Internal Safety Act and Emergency Detention Act of 1950, and the Communist Control Act of 1954. They put in the basic framework for sweeping action against the Red Menace, but, due to a coordinated campaign by communist agitators, their controlled press, and their powerful financial backers, were unable to gain enough popular support to put their anti-communist, pro-America plan into action and save the Republic from subversion.

In a hard-hitting sermon delivered in 1961, Ezra Taft Benson stated that the goal of communists is “to destroy the existing government and set up a ruthless criminal dictatorship over the whole land.” He further warned: “Unfortunately our nation has not treated the socialistic-communist conspiracy as “treasonable to our free institutions” . . . If we continue to uphold communism by not making it treasonable, our land shall be destroyed.”

Can anyone disagree with his assessment? Can anyone turn on the TV, watch as Seattle, Portland, Chicago, and other cities burn in communist-led riots, and then honestly disagree that communists must be dealt with by force? Communism is the enemy. Communism is treason. Communism must die for America to survive!

This Satanic enemy, like the fabled hydra, has many heads. It operates through an extensive network of front groups. They back the LGBT movement to corrupt our culture, destroy the family unit, and warp the minds of children. They promote public schooling so they can better indoctrinate children into the Marxist way of thinking. They use the Federal Reserve and the bloated bureaucracy to chip away at economic Freedom. They use taxation as a wealth redistribution scheme. They tell blacks they’re “victims,” pour salt in old wounds, and stoke the fires of racial disharmony. They target police, seek to limit their authority via citizen review boards, and use the courts to allow violent offenders and rioters to go free. They tell women that their place is in a nine-to-five job rather than in the home raising the next generation of citizens. They push for drug legalization as a means of desensitizing, degrading, and demoralizing our nation. They enact hate crime legislation which does nothing but criminalize points of view with which communists disagree. In these and a thousand other ways, the communist conspiracy has brought Lady Liberty to her knees.

The Communist Party USA, as the classic symbol of this conspiracy, must be first on the patriots’ chopping block. Not only has the Communist Party USA formally been outlawed, but it could readily be outlawed and its members penalized under any number of laws currently on the books. It is a clear and present danger to the United States because it operates as a wing of the worldwide communist conspiracy.

Louis Francis Budenz was a member of the CPUSA for ten years, during which time he helped edit the infamous Daily Worker. Budenz became disillusioned with the Party and woke up to its threatening nature. He wrote a book titled Men Without Faces: The Communist Conspiracy in the U.S.A., which I cannot recommend too highly. In the book’s introduction, he noted that it was his goal:

to demonstrate that the Soviet dictatorship and its fifth column in this country constitute a clear and present danger to the existence of the United States.

I want to show beyond question that the Communist party is not a political party in the American or democratic sense, but solely a fifth column of the Kremlin.”

Among other things, Budenz observed:

Garbing itself in the attire of a regular political party, the Communist organization raises on behalf of its own legality the cry of those “civil liberties” which it officially declares it intends to abolish. The matter would be less confusing if the Red missionaries in the guise of liberals, radio commentators and trade unionists were not so successful in preventing Americans from learning the truth about their conspiratorial setup. The whole fictitious character of this “political party” claim could be easily exposed if it were established (as it can be) from Red documents and acts that the so-called Communist party is and has always been nothing other than one division of a dictator’s army with which he hopes to conquer the world” (Budenz, Men Without Faces, 29-30).

Yes, the Communist Party USA wears the mask of “democracy,” but instead promotes tyranny of the blackest type. It seeks to end the Constitution and decimate the rights we enjoy. Budenz further explained:

The aim of this fifth column, and of the dictatorship manipulating it, is the violent destruction of the American Republic. It plans the conquest of the United States by setting up a world proletarian dictatorship guided and ruled by Joseph Stalin. As comfortable as it may have been in the past to evade that ugly reality, it can be evaded no longer. The fanatical hope, if you can call it that, which gives drive to these conspirators is the belief in “The World October.” This promised extension to the entire globe of the October Russian revolution which set up the Soviet dictatorship is the dynamo of the Communist movement. That whispered promise is on the lips of every obscure comrade; it is proudly proclaimed in every important speech and every fundamental book by ever leader of the Soviet state.

In the first pamphlet on communism that I was given to study on entering the party, this pledge to wipe out the American government by fire and sword was stated in the most bloodthirsty terms. . . .

It is disconcerting, then, to hear and read the extensive speculations of certain men in public life about what Soviet Russia means to do and what its fifth columns plan. The Reds have said so clearly what their reason for existence is, and have so scrupulously and relentlessly pursued the path set out for them, that such speculations would be absurd were they not so tragic.

There is no greater tribute to the effectiveness of the Soviet fifth column in this country than the obvious fact that it has befogged the American mind regarding its ruthless resolves to wipe out American independence. Nothing is so clear-cut as its continual insistence within its own ranks that violent attack upon the government here is highly essential. But so skilled are its propagandists – disguised as non-Communists in the radio, newspaper and moving-picture world – that they have made Americans believe every revelation of Red espionage is the result of hysteria. They have done a fairly adequate job of making America ashamed of defending its own freedoms” (Budenz, Men Without Faces, 5, 7-8).

How very prescient! Today, in 2020, we see all around us hordes of rioters, Antifa thugs, and their cheerleaders in the media and Congress, who make themselves Red in the face yelling about how evil America is, how horrible our history is, and how ashamed we ought to be our of noble ancestors. This cacophony of dissent has cowed many Americans into sitting silently on the sidelines as their country is disgraced and destroyed in front of them. Many have been indoctrinated to believe that there is no communist threat and that anyone who says so is resurrecting the “Red Scare” and is probably a “Nazi,” “anti-Semite,” “fascist,” “klansman,” or “white supremacist.”

The cultural Marxists have successfully made millions of Americans ashamed to be Americans! What a tragedy! What a danger to our future! How can a nation survive when it hates itself? How can a nation project strength and oppose outward aggression when internally its people are twisted in confusion and self-loathing?

Fellow America, wake up! Your birthright is American Liberty. Your forebears were good, virtuous, patriotic men and women. Your institutions are unsurpassed in greatness and genius. You are descendants of the Sons of Liberty. Start acting like it.

Budenz concluded his landmark book by warning that a real defense of our Freedom means crushing the communist conspiracy. Said he:

A true defense of civil liberties recognizes that the Communists mean to destroy such liberties. To safeguard American freedom the fifth column which menaces that freedom will have to be dealt with as a fifth column and not as something else – a legitimate political party, for example, which is pure fiction. . . .

God grant that America may have the alertness to distinguish fact from fancy, the wisdom to understand the true nature of her Soviet opponent, and the courage to stand firm for her own defense and that of all mankind” (Budenz, Men Without Faces, 297).

Another Soviet defector, Yuri Bezmenov, similarly urged tough action against communist agitators. Bezmenov recommended curtailing the rights of seditious individuals and groups before they were able to foment a crisis that could only be reversed through bloodshed. He explained that there are four stages communists move a nation through before it can be considered conquered: 1) Demoralization; 2) Destabilization; 3) Crisis; and 4) Normalization. By the time things reach the destabilization stage, Bezmenov said that only restricting the rights of agitators can save a nation from military struggle:

Now, at that point, at the point of destabilization, also the process could be reversed . . . You know what it takes here? Restriction of some liberties for small groups which are self-declared enemies of the society. As simple as that. “Oh no,” the media and liberals will tell you, “this is against the American Constitution” . . . Ok, if you allow the criminals to have civil rights, go on, and bring the country to the crisis. This is a bloodless way to do it: Curb the rights . . . It has to be beaten in the heads of American voters that a person like that in the seats of power is an enemy. Don’t be afraid of this word. It is an enemy . . . You are doing great service by denying him a right to capitalize on his own crazy ideas . . . Restrictions of certain Freedoms and permissions at that point would prevent sliding into crisis.”

As I’ve shown above, there is legal precedent for identifying, investigating, criminalizing, and even rounding up seditious groups. Specifically, the Communist Party and sworn Marxists have been singled out as seditious. It would be foolish to not use the Communist Control Act, or some variation thereof, to take down the communist network in America once and for all.

Let’s assume for a moment, however, that there was no Communist Control Act. Americans would still have the natural right to fight back against subversive elements in society. I refer to what Thomas Jefferson called the “laws of necessity.” In a letter, he explained why a patriot must sometime act on the authority of necessity rather than abide strictly by the written law:

The question you propose, whether circumstances do not sometimes occur, which make it a duty in officers of high trust, to assume authorities beyond the law, is easy of solution in principle, but sometimes embarrassing in practice. A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means” (Thomas Jefferson to John B. Colvin, September 20, 1810).

The laws of necessity enjoin upon us, as freemen, as patriots, as Americans, to crush the communist conspiracy and all other ruthless criminal cliques seeking to overthrow our government, undermine our Constitution, and murder our Liberty. We cannot allow our children to march into Marxist servitude because we’re worried that the Bill of Rights protects free speech, for instance. By subscribing to the wicked ideology of communism, adherents become co-conspirators in a global plot to eviscerate Faith, Families, and Freedom. As adherents to this perverse totalitarian ideology, an ideology which has led to more death, rapine, and destruction than any other in world history, communists forfeit their political rights and privileges.

I call upon President Donald J. Trump and all other elected representatives of the American People to invoke and enforce the Communist Control Act, as well as the laws of necessity, to stamp out the communist conflagration spreading over the breadth of our land. We don’t have long if the blaze is allowed to burn out of control. We must act now. The Communist Party USA must be abolished and its members jailed, exiled, or executed, depending on the severity of their treason. Members of all other communist-socialist-oriented organizations, parties, publications, think tanks, and clubs must be penalized. It must be made a crime to openly promote the anti-American, anti-Constitution, anti-Freedom, anti-Family, anti-Christ conspiracy we call communism.

We must recognize that the real virus ripping through the world is communism. The Red Plague of Bolshevism is the devastating contagion we must identify, quarantine, and eradicate. We must immunize ourselves against this spiritual, economic, and political plague by fortifying our Faith, Families, and Freedom. We must educate our youth to hate communism and all forms of tyranny over the minds of free men and women. We must no longer tolerate or excuse ideologies that promote the oppression of peaceable people. We must no longer tolerate communism.

Say it with me, dear reader: Communism is treason! No one wants to talk this bluntly, but in a crisis, straight talk is mandatory. No one wants to call for their fellow human beings to be rounded up and penalized, but that’s the dire stage we’re at. If we are to survive, we must do what a small handful of other nations attempted to do in the 1930s and 40s – criminalize communism and mercilessly crush their conspiratorial network.

If America does not destroy the communist cancer eating away at her vitals, she will die. If we do not stand up like freemen to oppose this system of unrivaled darkness, oppression, slavery, rapine, plunder, deception, and mass murder, we deserve our fate. We must not let our families down. We must not betray our country’s legacy. We must not allow our communist enemies to destroy this, the greatest nation in human history.

The Miracle of Life

Life is a glorious journey! Our Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness allows us, His precious sons and daughters, the chance to come into mortality, receive a physical body, learn and grow, gain experience, unite in families, and exercise our agency. We’re here to work out our own individual salvation and to learn obedience to the laws of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This earth was created for us as a testing ground. We’re in a divine tutorial to see whether or not we will follow our Savior and, by so doing, return to our Heavenly home from whence we came.

Long before our life on this earth began, we existed in our Father’s presence. We are His children. He is the Father of our spirits. We are literally the offspring and family of the God of all creation! “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:16).

We were there “from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, [we were] brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills [were we] brought forth . . . When [God] prepared the heavens, [we were] there . . . Then [were we] by him, as one brought up with him: and [we were] daily his delight, rejoicing always before him” (Proverbs 8:23-30). Yes, when our Father revealed His Plan of Salvation and, through His Firstborn Son Jesus Christ, created this beautiful earth, “all the sons of God shouted for joy” (Job 38:7).

Our first lessons were given by our Father and remain locked away in our special spirits, waiting to be unlocked piece by piece when we faithfully follow the spiritual promptings He is always attempting to give us. As we grow in spiritual stature, the veil that separates us from our Father, and the veil that conceals our precious pre-earth memories from us for this brief testing season, begins to thin. We begin to realize who we are, that we are of a royal lineage, and that we’re here for the specific purpose of gaining a body, learning by our own experience, and proving ourselves worthy of external exaltation by showing we are obedient children.

While in the pre-mortal sphere, a clash of ideas took place. The Apostle John says there was “was in heaven” (Revelation 12:3-9) when Lucifer rebelled against our Father’s perfect Plan and sought to claim His throne (Isaiah 14:12-14). We were there for those momentous events. Each of us participated – the Dragon (Lucifer) and his followers and Michael (Adam) and his angels (you and I).

We who are privileged to come to earth are those who chose to follow Jesus Christ and reject Lucifer’s scheme to control our lives – a counterfeit plan that would have led to the destruction of our agency and free will. The Gospel Plan, by contrast, is one of Freedom. Our Father’s program exalts the principle of individual choice and accountability. We are each given a stewardship through which we can demonstrate how well we understand and can apply correct principles of charity, thrift, honesty, industry, self-control, Liberty, and so forth. We supported these ideas and pledged ourselves to uphold them when it was our turn to dive in mortality, though we don’t now remember those sacred vows.

For their rebellion, Lucifer and a third part of our brothers and sisters lost their chance to come to earth, receive bodies, and realize their place in the Kingdom of God. Instead, they were cast out; or, perhaps more accurately, they marched into self-slavery. In their miserable condition, they spend their time tempting us and trying to make us miserable like they are. Those who give themselves over to their venomous influence have introduced the horrors of global communism, tyranny, child abuse, abortion, murder, plunder, drug use, infidelity, profanity, lying, and false religion into the world. It is the challenge of life to reject these agency-destroying, faith-corrupting, society-annihilating ideas and practices and instead cleave to the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ.

When it’s our appointed time to come to earth, we receive a physical body to house our immortal spirit. Our bodies have been compared to temples (1 Corinthians 6:9). They are sacred. They are essential to God’s eternal Plan. Learning to properly use and master our bodies and their appetites is one of the key challenges in life.

When our mortal body dies, “the spirit shall return unto God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7). Until the day of judgment, our spirits reside in the spirit world where they will continue to grow and learn and teach and enjoy associations in much the same way earthly beings do now. Those who died without a knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will have an opportunity to be taught and accept the Gospel. Essential saving ordinances like baptism can then be vicariously performed on earth for them by those holding the correct Priesthood authority given by the Savior (1 Corinthians 15:29; 1 Peter 4:6).

When the day of the great Resurrection comes, our immortal spirits will be reunited with our physical bodies which will become perfected and incorruptible. In this, as in all things, the Lord is our Exemplar. When He was resurrected from the grave three days after suffering and dying for the sins of the world, He received again His physical body. It was perfected and glorified, yet contained flesh and bones. The resurrected Redeemer stated: “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have” (Luke 24:39). Perhaps to emphasize the point, the Lord then ate “a piece of broiled fish . . . and an honeycomb” with His awestruck disciples. All who come into mortality qualify to receive a similarly perfected physical body in the eternities.

More incredible than receiving a perfected body that will not feel pain or sickness or fatigue, will be the happy state of our souls if we have followed the Gospel Plan. Central to that Plan is the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the person of our Savior. Because mankind figuratively fell into a pit and beyond the ability to save ourselves, we needed one to come along and let down a ladder so that we could climb out to safety. Jesus Christ is that One. He was the only One who could do it, being the “Only Begotten” Son, in the flesh, of our Father in Heaven.

Because of His Parentage, Jesus inherited power over death (John 10:17-18). He was the only One who could voluntarily lay down His life as an offering for sin and then take it up again. This He did because He loved His brothers and sisters – you and I – and because our Father’s Plan required it in order to blot out the sins of all humanity (John 3:16-17). Thus, Jesus allowed His blood to be spilled, first in the Garden of Gethsemane, and then on the cross, to atone for you and for me; to ransom us from the power of death and hell (Isaiah 44:22; Ephesians 1:7; Matthew 20:28).

During His ministry, the Savior taught what we must do to have His sinless atoning blood apply in our lives:

If ye love me, keep my commandments. . . .

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. . . .

. . . If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him” (John 14:15, 22-23).

Those who love God, adore His Son, and follow Their laws to the best of their ability and in full sincerity of heart, are loved and received by Them. If they have entered into the covenants and ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and remained faithful, they will be exalted with their own families in what the Apostle Paul called the “third heaven” (2 Corinthians 12:2). They will enjoy a state of never-ending happiness, having inherited all that the Father has to give to His precious sons and daughters as Christ, our Elder Brother, did before us (Romans 8:16-17).

We can have faith and confidence in the Atonement of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He fulfilled His word. He completed our Father’s Plan. He burst the bands of death. He secured for us an unimaginably glorious future if only we reach out and grasp it. With childlike trust, we can walk in Jesus’ footsteps. We all must “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:15-16). When we do so, the Savior clasps us in His arms, the Father surrounds us with His love, and we begin our ascent back to God and glory.

This life is not the genesis of our journey, but it is the deciding moment. This life is the time for us to choose God. This life is the time to show that we really do love the Lord and want to serve Him and be like Him. This is the time for us to put into action those things we spiritually learned before mortality and that we’ve gradually relearned here. This life is the time, dear reader, for you and I to remember who we are and to rise to the stature of the sons and daughters of the Most High God, our literal Father in Heaven.

In a wonderful sermon entitled “Decisions for Eternity,” Russell M. Nelson spoke of this all-important moment of time that we have here in mortality to choose our Savior and prepare for eternity. Speaking both as a chosen man of God and as a former heart surgeon of international renown, President Nelson outlined the grandeur of God’s Plan, the beauty of earth life, the magnificence of the human body, and the superlative opportunity we have to undergo this mortal testing period and potential exaltation with our Savior. He explained:

We are eternal beingsspirit children of heavenly parents. The Bible records that “God created man in his own image, … male and female created he them.” Recently I heard a chorus of children sing the beloved song “I Am a Child of God.” I wondered, “Why haven’t I heard that song rendered more often by singing mothers or faithful fathers?” Are we not all children of God? In truth, not one of us can ever stop being a child of God!

As children of God, we should love Him with all our heart and soul, even more than we love our earthly parents. We should love our neighbors as brothers and sisters. No other commandments are greater than these. And we should ever revere the worth of human life, through each of its many stages.

Scripture teaches that the body and the spirit are the soul of man. As a dual being, each of you can thank God for His priceless gifts of your body and your spirit.

My professional years as a medical doctor gave me a profound respect for the human body. Created by God as a gift to you, it is absolutely amazing! Think of your eyes that see, ears that hear, and fingers that feel all the wondrous things around you. Your brain lets you learn, think, and reason. Your heart pumps tirelessly day and night, almost without your awareness. . . .

With your body being such a vital part of God’s eternal plan, it is little wonder that the Apostle Paul described it as a “temple of God.” Each time you look in the mirror, see your body as your temple. That truthrefreshed gratefully each daycan positively influence your decisions about how you will care for your body and how you will use it. And those decisions will determine your destiny. How could this be? Because your body is the temple for your spirit. And how you use your body affects your spirit. . . .

Your spirit is an eternal entity. The Lord said to His prophet Abraham: “Thou wast chosen before thou wast born.” The Lord said something similar about Jeremiah and many others. He even said it about you.

Your Heavenly Father has known you for a very long time. You, as His son or daughter, were chosen by Him to come to earth at this precise time, to be a leader in His great work on earth. You were chosen not for your bodily characteristics but for your spiritual attributes, such as bravery, courage, integrity of heart, a thirst for truth, a hunger for wisdom, and a desire to serve others. . . .

A strong human spirit with control over appetites of the flesh is master over emotions and passions and not a slave to them. That kind of freedom is as vital to the spirit as oxygen is to the body! Freedom from self-slavery is true liberation! . . . .

The Savior’s way of life is good. . . .

My dear brothers and sisters, each day is a day of decision, and our decisions determine our destiny. One day each of us will stand before the Lord in judgment. We will each have a personal interview with Jesus Christ. We will account for decisions that we made about our bodies, our spiritual attributes, and how we honored God’s pattern for marriage and family. That we may choose wisely each day’s decisions for eternity is my earnest prayer in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.”

Yes, the Savior’s way of life is good! It’s excellent! It’s true liberation – Freedom from death, sin, and hopelessness. It’s the fire that fuels our spirits and propels us to greatness. Life is a miracle!

We have so many opportunities here in mortality for which we ought to thank our Father in Heaven. He is our Father. We are His children. We were selected to be held back until this specific time in earth’s history. This is our time to shine.

We have unprecedented opportunities to help people, influence others, lift the downtrodden, share the Gospel, and learn about our Lord. When we use these opportunities, and keep our focus on Christ, we become masters of our souls. As children of God, our potential is limitless. As sons and daughters of the great Elohim, we have the chance to use this miracle of mortality, this miracle of a physical body, this miracle of the modern age with its outpouring of Heavenly power upon the heads of the humble, to boldly approach the throne of grace and advance the Kingdom of God. In our hearts, our homes, and communities, we can create Zion!

When we stop and think about it, we’re compelled to acknowledge that our Father’s Plan is perfect. And one of the things that makes it so amazing is that it accommodates so many billions of people who are so unique and different. Though many of us look similar and like some of the same things, we are each unique. We are each eternally different from every other person on earth. There is only one of me and only one of you. We each have a part to play in the Plan. We each have something to contribute that only we can contribute at this time and in our way. We – individual human beings – are the truest miracle of life!

An inspired man once wrote:

[A]lthough there are millions and millions of people in the world, no two are exactly alike in appearance, in personality, in intelligence, or in the way they think or respond. How true this is, though we are all humans and spirit children of God. When we realize who we are, where we came from, why we are here, and what our future can be, surely we must agree that the greatest miracle in all the world is YOU, the individual. It is YOU and what YOU do that will affect YOU eternally. . . .

Emerson once made this meaningful statement: “Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is to you.” How true! What wise counsel! We cannot get away from ourselves. We must continue to live with ourselves, and what we do every day and how we respond to life determines the kind of YOU we are going to be and live with and how successful and happy we will be with the YOU we are. . . .

The importance of manYOUcannot be more greatly emphasized than it is in Genesis when God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” . . .

This means that manYOUis the greatest of all God’s creations, and everything was created for him, over which he will have full dominion. He is blessed with the ability to think, to know good from evil; and a spirit by which he can communicate with God, and a physical body with which he is able to do the daily things he wants to do.”

Dear reader, we are miracles! Each individual that comes to this earth is a Heaven-sent miracle. We each have the right to decide our own place in eternity, whether we will return to our Father in honor or not. We each can decide whether we will live up to our heritage and lineage as children of God or whether we will live far below our privileges. We each have been placed here by a loving Father who not only wants the best for us and who is always by our side even when we don’t realize it, but who has sent His Son Jesus Christ to complete His Plan for our salvation and happiness.

It would be well to remember the words of Ezra Taft Benson and to allow gratitude to swell our hearts for all that which our Father has done for us:

We once knew well our Elder Brother and His and our Father in Heaven. We rejoiced at the prospects of earth life that could make it possible for us to have a fulness of joy. We could hardly wait to demonstrate to our Father and our Brother, the Lord, how much we loved them and how we would be obedient to them in spite of the earthly opposition of the evil one.

Now we are here. Our memories are veiled. We are showing God and ourselves what we can do. Nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our Father and how familiar His face is to us.

God loves us. He is watching us. He wants us to succeed. We will know some day that He has not left one thing undone for the eternal welfare of each of us. If we only knew it, heavenly hosts are pulling for usfriends in heaven that we cannot now remember who yearn for our victory. This is our day to show what we can dowhat life and sacrifice we can daily, hourly, instantly make for God. If we give our all, we will get His all from the greatest of all.”

No, He has not left one single thing undone in our lives. He has arranged everything so that our lives can be the miracle they were intended to be. He has not sent us here to fail, but to conquer and rise above all challenges. He and numerous friends we do not now know both here and in the world beyond are “pulling for us.” If you take nothing else away from this article, please be assured that your Eternal Father loves you, as any good father loves his children.

I’ve recently learned something of a father’s love. In fact, that’s the reason for this article – this testimony. Three days ago, my first child, a lovely little girl, was born to my wife and I. My little Emma Viktoria is a gorgeous, sweet, and special soul! Her smile makes me smile. Her eyes make mine water. Her sweetness soothes my spirit. I’ve felt a love in my heart that is different from any I’ve ever felt before. It’s a pure, total, flowing love; a Christ-like love. I love you, little Emma!

Though I am only at the very beginning of my parenting journey, I can at least honestly say that I understand my Heavenly Father’s love a little better than I did just days ago. Holding my own little girl in my hands and seeing her with my own eyes and feeling love and joy like I’ve never felt before, has bolstered my sure witness that my Father in Heaven also loves me with a pristine and powerful love, that He is truly interested in every moment of my life, and that He will do everything in His power to effect my happiness and success in this miraculous mortal journey.

I know that my Heavenly Father lives. I know that my Savior, Jesus Christ, died for me and lives for me, too. I know that They care so deeply about me and about you. This earth is Theirs. And we are Their greatest joy, work, and glory. If we unflinchingly put ourselves in Their hands as children trust their welfare so freely to their earthly parents, we will be led right and our life will be, in every sense of the word, a miracle. As a son of my Father, and now as a father of my own precious little one fresh from His presence, I thank my God for the majestic miracle of life!

Thirty-Three

On July 17, 1987, my mother and father welcomed me into the world. Today, I turn thirty-three. As I thought whether or not to publicly mention my birthday, I had the idea of listing thirty-three things I’m grateful for. I hope that my list causes you to reflect on things that you are thankful for in your own life. Gratitude is a sorely lacking virtue in modern society. My birthday wish this year is that you will turn to God and thank Him for all those things He has done for you and your family. God bless you and keep you in His loving care!

1. I’m grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The English word “Gospel” comes from a much older word meaning “good news.” The good news of our Savior Jesus Christ is the greatest ever proclaimed. He redeemed those who will turn to Him in sincerity of heart. He atoned for their sins in the Garden of Gethsemane. He died for them on the cross. And He rose from the tomb to shatter the shackles of death so that each of us may rise again. Today, the risen Lord stands on the right hand of our Father in Heaven, leading and directing His Church, urging people to come to Him so that He may heal and bless them, and preparing His followers for His swiftly approaching Second Coming.

2. I’m grateful for my family. They mean so very much to me. They’re my best friends. Everything I do is for my God and my family. I love them immensely.

3. I’m thankful for my precious Freedom. The trio of Faith, Family, Freedom is what makes life worthwhile. Liberty is the salt that gives life flavor. Without it, life is drudgery and servitude. I’m so grateful that I have been blessed with personal agency and accountability. Long Live Liberty!

4. I’m grateful for the U.S. Constitution. That divinely-inspired instrument protects my God-given rights. It is the glue that binds the Union together. It is a document worth fighting for. And the men who created it were good, honorable, patriotic men moved upon by God to restore the principles of free government to the world. May we bear off the Constitution and hand it down intact to the next generation.

5. I’m thankful for America. The United States is criticized at home and abroad these days. But I express my sincere appreciation for America, her noble history, her general goodness, and the unsurpassed rights I’m offered here. I’m proud to be an American and unashamed to say so. God bless the good people of America!

6. I’m grateful for Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson is my hero. I gladly call myself a “Jeffersonian constitutionalist.” His words have guided me many times and have informed my own beliefs. His writings are like an endless well of truth and knowledge. He wrote his most famous work, the Declaration of Independence, when he was age thirty-three. I honor his good name.

7. I’m appreciative and thankful for the majestic earth that God created. Though we sometimes muck things up, the earth is a splendid creation. The mountains and forests, rivers and lakes, oceans and beaches, dunes and prairies, are beautiful to look upon. We couldn’t ask for a more pleasant home away from our true Heavenly home!

8. I’m grateful for eternity. I’m thankful for the sure knowledge I have that birth was not the beginning and death is not the end. The human soul existed before and will continue on after our mortal bodies crumble to the earth. We will live on in spirit form until the day of the Resurrection when our bodies and spirits will be reunited once more. If we have followed Jesus Christ, entered into His ordinances, and remained faithful to our sacred covenants, we will enjoy growth and happiness with our loved ones for eternity.

9. I’m grateful for modern technology which allows me to reach out and connect with the world, access the learning and wisdom of generations, and educate and inspire people in multiple locations simultaneously. Our conveniences give us a greater opportunity for learning and promoting goodness than past generations had. They also provide a greater chance to be deceived and to deceive, if we use them improperly. Let’s do our part to use the technology with which God has blessed humanity for our collective benefit.

10. I’m grateful for the color green. Green – emerald in particular – is my favorite color because it is the color of trees, grass, and nature.

11. I express appreciation for sincere friends. George Washington counseled: “Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence—true friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo & withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation” (George Washington to Bushrod Washington, January 15, 1783). Because I don’t count all people I meet or know as friends, I’m profoundly grateful for those who have withstood the “shocks of adversity” with me and have remained by my side.

12. I’m grateful for laughter. The king of silent comedy, Charlie Chaplin, is reported as having said that a day without laughter is wasted. I tend to agree. Laughter enlivens the soul, expands the senses, and helps us see more beauty in life. “[M]en are, that they might have joy,” says the scripture (2 Nephi 2:25). Laughing is a joy and undoubtedly one of my favorite activities!

13. I’m thankful for clean comedy. Much of the so-called “comedy” that contaminates the world today is crude, rude, and profane. True comedy doesn’t need to swear or include sexual references in order to score laughs. Abbott and Costello, The Three Stooges, the Marx Brothers, and all the comedic greats, along with more modern additions such as Studio C, Dry Bar Comedy, and Brian Regan, have filled my life with countless hours of honest humor.

14. I recognize books as one of the greatest of all blessings. “I cannot live without books,” said the Sage of Monticello (Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, June 10, 1815). Neither can I. Reading is a joy that’s hard to explain. It fosters imagination, which is a superlative blessing in and of itself. Books have the ability to transport us to new worlds and give us experiences we couldn’t otherwise have. Books are faithful friends. The pages of a book is where some of our biggest heroes live. As an author myself, I express my gratitude for the refuge from the world that books provide for us.

15. I thank the Lord for majestic mountains. I fondly recall all the times I’ve spent hiking and hunting and exploring in the mountains of Alaska, Idaho, and elsewhere. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be than on a wooded alpine slope.

16. I’m grateful for peace and quiet. With the constant rumble of the city in the background and the hum of electronics in the air, city-dwellers don’t truly comprehend what peace and quiet feels like. Having spent much of my life in rural communities of a few hundred people or less, I’ve come to adore peace and quiet – and to miss it very much whenever I’m in metropolitan areas. Port Lions, Alaska is my pick for most peaceful place I’ve ever been.

17. I’m thankful for little children. I’ve always liked kids and consider myself a kid at heart in many ways. Children are innocent and pure and role models for the rest of us. I can’t wait until my home is filled with children!

18. I’m grateful for music. What would life be without a soundtrack? Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Christmas music, Russian/Slavic folk music, yodeling, and Armenian duduk tunes. Anyone who has not discovered the beauty of instrumental, classical, and folk music, is missing out!

19. I’m grateful for the inestimable gift of language. As biting and deceptive as language often is, it is nonetheless beautiful. Language has the power to move nations, motivate individuals, and change history. It has the power to convert wayward souls, inspire feelings of love, and make a child smile. Language is real power.

20. I’m beyond thankful to see so many people waking up to the corruption that plagues our world. It’s been my life’s work trying to wake folks up to the communist conspiracy’s machinations. Unfortunately, it took a global crisis, the burning of American cities, and the loss of several of our most fundamental Freedoms to jolt some people awake. Of course, many are still sound asleep, but I expect more to continue to open their eyes because, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.

21. I’m grateful for Autumn. I love the vibrant colors of the trees – orange, yellow, red. I’ve been blessed to live in some gorgeous locations with picturesque Autumns. This special season has become my favorite.

22. I’m grateful for guitars. I’ve passed hundreds of hours strumming a guitar and writing songs. As fun as it is to listen to music, it’s even more fulfilling to create music!

23. I’m thankful for my silly little dog G.A. He’s a ten-month-old dachshund-chihuahua mix with endless energy.

24. I’m grateful for the song of the Cocorron here in Panama where I’m temporarily residing. Every Easter, this little insect comes out and makes a wailing noise that can be heard all around. I love hearing it!

25. I’m grateful for pancakes! Though my wife isn’t a big fan, she made delicious homemade pancakes with eggs and sausages for my breakfast today. Pancakes are a little taste of home and a tasty reminder of my childhood. Thank you, Emma! I love you very much!!

26. Speaking of childhood, I’m thankful to my parents for raising me! They’ve been my constant support throughout my life. They gave me a happy upbringing. Most importantly, they taught me to love the Lord. The older I get and the more I meet other families, the more appreciative of my own childhood and home life I become. My Mom and Dad deserve a place of honor for their great work raising me and my siblings.

27. I’m grateful for American history. I draw strength from our forefathers’ valor, honor, and devotion to principle. They landed in this uncivilized land, improved the soil, constructed a Republic, and forged the world’s greatest nation. I praise their good works, their conquests, and their sacrifices.

28. I’m personally thankful for ancestors who helped shape the events just mentioned. The first Strong in the New World was Elder John Strong who arrived in 1635. He was an Indian fighter, churchman, and political figure. One of his descendants, to whom I am also distantly related, was Caleb Strong. Caleb Strong was a forgotten Founding Father who worked intimately with John Adams in drawing up the Massachusetts Constitution, who attended the Constitutional Convention and successfully moved that all financial items originate in the House of Representatives, who served as the first senator from Massachusetts and was often called the “first citizen,” and who later served as governor of that state for eleven years. Other individuals in my family history, such as Leonard Ishmael Smith, were Pioneers and did notable things for their country and posterity that I don’t have space to mention. I honor them all today.

29. I’m grateful to my siblings. My family members are my best friends. My siblings have been right there by me for all these years. They’ve laughed with me, played with me, and shared tender moments with me. They’ve crept down the stairs with me to peak at the presents under the Christmas tree at 2 A.M. They’ve shared too many laughs with me to count. They’ve put up with my antics and have stayed true through everything. They deserve a place on this list. I love each of you!

30. I’m indescribably grateful to my Savior Jesus Christ for His Atonement, His mercy, and His love. Because He suffered for my sins and sicknesses and weaknesses, I can be redeemed, comforted, and healed. Without the Atonement of Jesus Christ, nothing else in life truly matters. It is through the mercy of Jesus Christ that I can return, with my family, to the presence of my Eternal Father.

31. I’m appreciative of the holy scriptures. I love reading the records left by ancient prophets of the Lord. The Bible has so many wonderful stories and teachings, from Joseph of Egypt to Jonah and the whale to Jesus of Nazareth. I also revere The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ and draw so much strength and inspiration from its stories and its heroes, men like Captain Moroni, Nephi, and Alma the Younger. The Lord be thanked for giving us written records of truth to sustain us!

32. Even more than the inspired records of yesteryear, I’m extremely thankful for a living prophet. The man whom the resurrected Lord has called to lead His Church today, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is Russell M. Nelson. President Nelson has been called “Moses in a business suit.” It is a marvelous thing to know that God has not left us alone during these trying times, but that He leads and directs the affairs of His earthly Kingdom through a living prophet just as He did anciently through Moses, Isaiah, or Peter.

33. Last, but absolutely not least, I am immensely grateful for my little baby who is about to be born any day. I haven’t seen this child with my own eyes or held them in my hands, yet my heart expands with pure love for them! This child is a unique and precious soul – a reward from my Father in Heaven (Psalm 127:3-5). I can’t wait to see you, little one.

The Sad Death of the Electoral College

On July 6, 2020, the Electoral College suffered a potentially lethal blow. It is not dead yet, but it’s on its knees, gasping for air. In a damning opinion, the Supreme Court went rogue, yet again, taking a swipe at our Constitution by telling states they can force their electors, under threat of punishment, to side with their people’s popular vote. As will be clear by the end of this article, this move neuters and nullifies the Electoral College and is a blatant usurpation of authority by the Supreme Court.

On Monday, the Court gave their opinion that states have the authority to punish what is referred to as “faithless electors.” That is, according to the Court, states may punish and fine electors who cast their vote for someone other than the winner of the popular vote in their state. CNN gave a surprisingly accurate rendition of what the Supreme Court’s opinion did. They explained:

In an effort to avoid [election chaos], the Supreme Court set out to determine whether presidential electors — a slate of individuals in each state, whose number is determined by Congressional representation, designated to cast their state’s electoral votes for president and vice president — are free agents or not. On Monday, justices unanimously decided in Chiafalo v. Washington that states have the power to bind electors — meaning we could see the end of so-called “faithless electors,” or electors who choose to vote for someone other than their party’s nominees.”

That’s where CNN’s objectivity ended, however. The article went on to advocate even more restrictive measures to formally bind electors to the popular vote and thus scrap the constitutionally-appointed method of electing the president:

With this decision, states should move quickly to adopt the Uniform Faithful Presidential Electors Act to categorically end the prospect of faithless electors.

I have long argued that we should eliminate elector discretion. . . .

In delivering the opinion Monday, Justice Elena Kagan indicated that the Constitution is “bare bones about electors.” While true, when the architects of various amendments dealing with the Electoral College had a chance, they never chose to eliminate the discretion of electors. . . .

. . . We can expect that states may put additional conditions on the appointment of electors to try to exert greater control. For instance, a state could require an elector to only vote for a candidate who has visited their state in the past 60 days or only for a candidate who has released their tax returns.”

It is actually not true that the Constitution gives states authority to bind electors, as Justice Kagan claims (we’ll get to that a little later). This was unthinkable to the Founders who created the system precisely to give electors the maximum discretion and free agency. As a line just quoted states, the “architects” of the Constitution “never chose to eliminate discretion of electors” – a fact which invalidates Justice Kagan’s and the Supreme Court’s entire argument.

At first glance, it may appear that the Supreme Court’s opinion is a win for “states’ rights” and the American People. After all, didn’t they decide that states could control their electors and punish “rogue” ones? Isn’t this a clear win for the Tenth Amendment? No, it’s not. It’s a win for whoever is able to swing the majority of the population. It’s a win for those who favor pure democracy – a system our Founding Fathers despised and which our Constitution explicitly rejects by guaranteeing to the states a “Republican Form of Government” (Article 4, Section 4) and only trusting the People with the direct election of members of the House of Representatives.

What exactly does the Constitution say about the Electoral College? The most relevant portion regarding the Electoral College, Article 2, Section1, Clause 2, mandates:

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress.”

Justice Kagan and her comrades on the Court interpreted “in such Manner as the Legislature thereof my direct” as carte blanche state control over electors – including over the candidate electors vote for. Said differently, they interpret this wording as implying state control over electors’ votes. As we see, the “implied powers” strike again.

Activists Protest Supreme Court Decision On Corporate Political Spending

The notion of “implied powers” has haunted this nation for generations. Power-hungry bureaucrats love to read between the lines and imply authority that is not explicitly contained in the Constitution. In our present case, for example, the Constitution does not say that states have carte blanche over electors’ votes. Nowhere does it say that they may force electors to vote for a specific candidate, punish them if they vote their conscience, or otherwise limit their free will in the matter. It simply says that state legislatures may determine how electors are appointed.

A federal government website gives readers a basic understanding of the Electoral College that the members of the Supreme Court seem to not have. It explains the process and obligations simply:

Each state gets as many electors as it has members of Congress (House and Senate). Including Washington, D.C.’s three electors, there are currently 538 electors in all. . . .

Each state’s political parties choose their own slate of potential electors. Who is chosen to be an elector, how, and when varies by state.

After you cast your ballot for president, your vote goes to a statewide tally. In 48 states and Washington, D.C., the winner gets all the electoral votes for that state. Maine and Nebraska assign their electors using a proportional system.

A candidate needs the vote of at least 270 electors—more than half of all electors—to win the presidential election.

In most cases, a projected winner is announced on election night in November after you vote. But the actual Electoral College vote takes place in mid-December when the electors meet in their states.

The Constitution doesn’t require electors to follow their state’s popular vote, but it’s rare for one not to.”

Finally, a graphic accompanying the text reads: “When people cast their vote, they are actually voting for a group of people called electors.”

This information is simple and straightforward. We learn that the People do not vote for the president directly, but for the electors who select the president. And there’s no confusion about whether the Constitution requires these electors to choose their winner of their state’s popular vote. Yet, the Supreme Court apparently thinks states have authority to penalize electors for voting their conscience even though there is no constitutional requirement for them to do so!

Some claim that the Founding Fathers themselves were divided on the issue and therefore varying interpretations of how the system should work are valid. I fail to see how anyone conversant with the literature of the times can draw this conclusion. Far from being divided on the issue of an Electoral College, the Founders were united in approving the system. During the Constitutional Convention, they debated numerous other modes of electing the president. They discarded them all and finally agreed upon the Electoral College as the best possible way of electing the highest officer in the land. In Federalist No. 68, Alexander Hamilton noted:

The mode of appointment of the Chief Magistrate of the United States is almost the only part of the system, of any consequence, which has escaped without severe censure, or which has received the slightest mark of approbation from its opponents. The most plausible of these, who has appeared in print, has even deigned to admit that the election of the President is pretty well guarded. I venture somewhat further, and hesitate not to affirm, that if the manner of it be not perfect, it is at least excellent. It unites in an eminent degree all the advantages, the union of which was to be wished for.”

Contrary to what political commentators today say, the Founders heartily approved the Electoral College – and none more so than Alexander Hamilton. He went out of his way to say that the Electoral College is “the only part” of the novel governmental plan that had “escaped without severe censure” by critics. Pay careful attention to some of Hamilton’s reasons for supporting the Electoral College so vociferously:

It was desirable that the sense of the people should operate in the choice of the person to whom so important a trust was to be confided. This end will be answered by committing the right of making it, not to any preestablished body, but to men chosen by the people for the special purpose, and at the particular conjuncture.

It was equally desirable, that the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice. A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations.

It was also peculiarly desirable to afford as little opportunity as possible to tumult and disorder. This evil was not least to be dreaded in the election of a magistrate, who was to have so important an agency in the administration of the government as the President of the United States. But the precautions which have been so happily concerted in the system under consideration, promise an effectual security against this mischief. The choice of SEVERAL, to form an intermediate body of electors, will be much less apt to convulse the community with any extraordinary or violent movements, than the choice of ONE who was himself to be the final object of the public wishes. And as the electors, chosen in each State, are to assemble and vote in the State in which they are chosen, this detached and divided situation will expose them much less to heats and ferments, which might be communicated from them to the people, than if they were all to be convened at one time, in one place.

Nothing was more to be desired than that every practicable obstacle should be opposed to cabal, intrigue, and corruption. These most deadly adversaries of republican government might naturally have been expected to make their approaches from more than one querter, but chiefly from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils. How could they better gratify this, than by raising a creature of their own to the chief magistracy of the Union? But the convention have guarded against all danger of this sort, with the most provident and judicious attention. They have not made the appointment of the President to depend on any preexisting bodies of men, who might be tampered with beforehand to prostitute their votes; but they have referred it in the first instance to an immediate act of the people of America, to be exerted in the choice of persons for the temporary and sole purpose of making the appointment. And they have excluded from eligibility to this trust, all those who from situation might be suspected of too great devotion to the President in office. No senator, representative, or other person holding a place of trust or profit under the United States, can be of the numbers of the electors. Thus without corrupting the body of the people, the immediate agents in the election will at least enter upon the task free from any sinister bias. Their transient existence, and their detached situation, already taken notice of, afford a satisfactory prospect of their continuing so, to the conclusion of it. The business of corruption, when it is to embrace so considerable a number of men, requires time as well as means. Nor would it be found easy suddenly to embark them, dispersed as they would be over thirteen States, in any combinations founded upon motives, which though they could not properly be denominated corrupt, might yet be of a nature to mislead them from their duty.”

Interesting, is it not, that the Founding Fathers sought to prevent chaos by empowering the Electoral College, whereas the Supreme Court Monday decided to prevent chaos by neutering the Electoral College. Who was right – the Founding Fathers or today’s Supreme Court? Who understood the system better, Alexander Hamilton who helped create it or Elena Kagan who has helped dismantle it through her activism? Anyone with a shred of honesty and common sense knows the answer to those two questions.

According to Hamilton, the Electoral College system would prevent secret “combinations” of corruption, negate the influence of foreign powers in our national elections, and thwart attempts to steal elections through bribery or conspiracy. As much as the Democrats falsely allege that Russia interfered in the 2016 election on behalf of Donald Trump, you’d think that they would be the biggest supporters of the Electoral College. Instead, they’re the greatest enemies of the system, for reasons we will discuss later.

Founding Father John Jay, who was also present at the Constitutional Convention, gave his support to the Electoral College and explained how it could prevent the People from being duped by charlatans promising “hope and change.” He said:

The convention . . . have directed the President to be chosen by select bodies of electors, to be deputed by the people for that express purpose; and they have committed the appointment of senators to the State legislatures. This mode has, in such cases, vastly the advantage of elections by the people in their collective capacity, where the activity of party zeal, taking the advantage of the supineness, the ignorance, and the hopes and fears of the unwary and interested, often places men in office by the votes of a small proportion of the electors.

As the select assemblies for choosing the President, as well as the State legislatures who appoint the senators, will in general be composed of the most enlightened and respectable citizens, there is reason to presume that their attention and their votes will be directed to those men only who have become the most distinguished by their abilities and virtue, and in whom the people perceive just grounds for confidence. The Constitution manifests very particular attention to this object. By excluding men under thirty-five from the first office [i.e. the presidency], and those under thirty from the second [i.e. the Senate], it confines the electors to men of whom the people have had time to form a judgment, and with respect to whom they will not be liable to be deceived by those brilliant appearances of genius and patriotism, which, like transient meteors, sometimes mislead as well as dazzle. If the observation be well founded, that wise kings will always be served by able ministers, it is fair to argue, that as an assembly of select electors possess, in a greater degree than kings, the means of extensive and accurate information relative to men and characters, so will their appointments bear at least equal marks of discretion and discernment. The inference which naturally results from these considerations is this, that the President and senators so chosen will always be of the number of those who best understand our national interests, whether considered in relation to the several States or to foreign nations, who are best able to promote those interests, and whose reputation for integrity inspires and merits confidence.”

Jay believed that electors would epitomize the wisdom of the People – that they would be the cream of the crop. They would convene once every four years, pool their wisdom, and, with the trust of the People, select the president. Generally, of course, the electors would choose the person the People wanted. But more importantly, they were left free as to their “discretion and discernment” to select the person who would “best understand our national interests.”

During the Constitutional Convention, George Mason similarly argued against a popular vote to elect the president in these colorful terms:

[I]t would be as unnatural to refer the choice of a proper character for chief Magistrate to the people, as it would, to refer the trial of colours to a blind man. The extent of the Country renders it impossible that the people can have the requisite capacity to judge of the representative pretentions of the Candidates” (Electing the President, Committee of the Judiciary, Ninety-First Congress, 456).

Like Mason, Elbridge Gerry argued that the People should not be given the opportunity to directly select the president because of their chance of being deceived. During the Founders’ debates, he said:

A popular election in this case is radically vicious. The ignorance of the people would put it in the power of some one set of men dispersed through the Union, and acting in concert, to delude them into any appointment” (W. Cleon Skousen, The Making of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution, 524).

Electors were to be brought in for one purpose – to ratify the People’s selection if they had shown good judgment and to rebuff them by selecting an alternative candidate if they had shown poor judgment. If the People had allowed themselves to be deceived, the electors, who would usually be people routinely involved in politics and presumably more knowledgeable than the average person, would override the popular vote.

James Madison liked this system in part because “as the electors would be chosen for the occasion, would meet at once, & proceed immediately to an appointment, there would be very little opportunity for cabal, or corruption” (Gaillard Hunt, ed., The Writings of James Madison, Vol. 4, 62). It’s easy to hoodwink large groups with emotional speeches and promises, especially in our day of mass media manipulation, but it’s theoretically more difficult to fool a small group of dedicated individuals whose sole purpose is to put the best person into the White House. Hence the creation of the Electoral College.

Some have made the argument that the Electoral College perhaps served a valuable function in a time when people did not have widespread access to information or education, but that today when nearly all people receive formal schooling and have access to a vast array of information, the system is archaic and unfair. This is easily refuted when we realize how poorly educated the average person is today compared to his ancestors in early America!

In early America, the average person might not have had much formal schooling, but he thoroughly understood the Constitution, actively participated in self-government, belonged to a militia, was involved in his community, participated on juries, knew his representatives in person, and so forth. Today, the average American probably doesn’t even know who the vice-president is, let alone who his local community representatives are. Then, Americans learned multiple languages in grade school and had a rigorous curriculum that baffles most people in our generation. Today, we stumble through remedial English and have horrendous school curricula that focus on feelings rather than facts. Simply, we are intellectually inferior in nearly every way to our ancestors – especially in the divine science of government.

Apart from preventing a conspiratorial takeover of our nation and guarding against mass ignorance, the Founding Fathers had other benefits in mind when they crafted the Electoral College system. In an excellent article written in the aftermath of the 2016 election, the reader is given a long list of benefits accrued from the Electoral College, including the following:

The system forces candidates to address people across the country. If polling were nationwide a candidate could theoretically sweep regions with large populations and win the nation-wide vote. This would basically leave rural America at risk of being ignored.

The marginal balance shifts to smaller states. In a national wide system a candidate could win heavily in a few heavily populated states and in the process ignore voters in less populated states. . . .

The College Provides A Safety Valve. There are 21 states at the moment where Electors can break from the popular will. Almost never do Electors vote as anything other than a proxy for the results of the electorate. But maybe, there will be a day when we will thank ourselves that possibility of Electors overriding the electorate exists.”

The article then opined about the third benefit on our list – the fact that the Electoral College serves as a safety valve to save the Republic if the People become deceived by a charlatan:

Make no mistake here the possibility of national elections being hijacked is just as real if not more in the 21st century as it was in the 18th century. We live in an age where sound bytes matter far more than serious reflection. We live in an age where masses of people can be swayed by an increasingly powerful media able to propagate ideas and spin them virally in a few clicks.

The crowd has a life of its own and the crowd is far more connected to each other than ever before. One day the crowd will turn into a stampede. When this happens, it will be really comforting to know there exists the possibility for one last bastion of sanity, a few souls, a few Electors in a few states who are brave enough and courageous enough to put forward their conscience and change the balance before it is too late.”

The Founding Fathers were legitimately worried that the American People could be deceived and a smooth-talking tyrant could come to power. The Electoral College was the ultimate check on the passions of the crowd. If it functioned as designed, the Electoral College would nullify the public’s vote if the public selected a wolf in sheep’s clothing to lead them. In other words, the Electoral College would figuratively slap the poisoned chalice out of the king’s hand before he could drink it.

A couple examples might be helpful. If the Electoral College had functioned as designed, the nation would have been spared the dreadful presidencies of socialists FDR and Woodrow Wilson. Instead of allowing FDR to take the reins and foist his horrid New Deal socialism on the nation, the Electoral College could have selected someone with fiscally sound policies who could have pulled our nation out of the Great Depression. Instead, the Electoral College overwhelmingly supported FDR, leading to four terms of de facto communism, the New Deal, Japanese Internment Camps, the theft of the nation’s gold, America’s unnecessary entrance into World War II, and the rescue of the Soviet Union from the jaws of defeat.

Similarly, if the Electoral College had done their job, they would have prevented Woodrow Wilson from ascending to the presidency. This would have saved America from entering World War I and, perhaps even more importantly, would have derailed, or at least delayed, the Federal Reserve scheme. Without Wilson in the Oval Office, a different president may have vetoed the egregious Federal Reserve Act, saving our People from bondage to a largely foreign-controlled private banking cartel, preventing the decline of the U.S. economy, and staving off the Great Depression that later brought FDR to power.

Unfortunately, the Electoral College has not worked exactly as designed. Yet, it has remained largely intact and has facilitated the peaceful transfer of power from one group to the next for over two centuries. It’s very existence, however, is now being challenged. A coordinated effort – not unlike those it was designed to thwart – is underway to eliminate the Electoral College completely.

In a New York Times op-ed on Monday’s opinion, Jesse Wegman said that “the Supreme Court clearly got it right,” but complained: “The justices did not address the much bigger problem, which is the existence of the Electoral College itself.” Wegman called the electoral system “bizarre” and “anti-democratic.” He alleged that the people in the “battleground” states have their voices heard while people elsewhere do not. He advocated, without using this term, for the total abolition of the Electoral College.

Wegman was absolutely correct – the Electoral College is “anti-democratic” by design. Whether you like it or not, it is part of our republican Constitution. In his Farewell Address, George Washington said:

Respect for [government’s] authority, compliance with its laws, acquiescence in its measures, are duties enjoined by the fundamental maxims of true liberty. The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of government. But the Constitution which at any time exists, till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole people, is sacredly obligatory upon all. The very idea of the power and the right of the people to establish government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey the established government.”

Until the Constitution is formally changed by the People, via the amendment process, it is “sacredly obligatory” upon us. This means that until we amend the Constitution to change or get rid of the Electoral College, it is our system and we must sustain it. Yet, in what can only be considered a usurpation of authority, the Supreme court took it upon themselves to grant states power to punish electors who do the job appointed to them by the Constitution! By issuing their bogus opinion and putting the matter in to the states’ hands instead of upholding the Constitution’s plain commitment to elector free agency, the Supreme Court opened the door to rendering the Electoral college totally irrelevant.

What the Court’s opinion really does is make the Electoral College a rubber stamp for the popular vote. In other words, it converts the Electoral College into a rubber stamp for pure democracy – that very thing our Founding Fathers feared. This allows the Elite social engineers who manipulate public opinion through the mass media to almost ensure that their preferred candidates come to power each election. If this system had been in place in 2016, Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote, would very likely have become president because it’s doubtful that electors would have risked official punishment to vote their conscience.

The agenda behind this is obvious. By dismantling the Constitution’s elaborate system of checks and balances and placing things directly in the hands of the People, whom they manipulate through indoctrination, the Establishment is setting itself up to bypass the hated Constitution and claim total power. The system our Founding Fathers set in place allowed Donald Trump to become president, against the wishes of the Establishment. They never want that to happen again, so they must once and for all destroy the Electoral College and put the ball in the People’s court – a move which historically leads to civil war and the rise of totalitarian regimes.

In his article “Destruction of the Electoral College Remains a Leftist Goal,” Charles Phipps explained a little about the fiendish agenda to sideswipe the Electoral College:

It is either ignorance of or contempt for the Constitution that fuels the anti-Electoral College movement. Whether it is ignorance or contempt depends on which leftist we’re talking about. I’ve never met a Democrat yet who didn’t believe the Electoral College should be eliminated. Not surprising since two of the last five presidential elections had the Republican losing the popular vote but winning the Electoral College, making Democrats absolutely apoplectic. If the roles were reversed and it was the Democrat who won the Electoral College, you can be sure that they would be staunch defenders of it. But, they hate it. . . .

The contempt that leftists have for the Electoral College is elevated by their losses when winning the popular vote, but the core of their disdain lies in their love of a huge, powerful, central government. That states have rights is irrelevant to them. The Electoral College was designed to rest the power to elect the president in the States, not the people. Under federalism, states have a sovereign role in our political system and it is that role that leftists seek to eliminate.”

A 2016 article featured on the Tenth Amendment Center’s website also warned of the impending danger to the Electoral College:

A campaign to eliminate the Electoral College and “let the people elect the president,” is gaining steam. A group called “National Popular Vote Interstate Compact,” started in 2006, has won commitments from eleven states to award their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote. . . .

As usual, it’s easy to get people to join this cause – yet another sound bite based on emotion rather than knowledge or logic. “Let the people decide.” “It’s the American way.” “It’s Democracy at work.” Yep, that’s why America was never set up as a democracy. Here’s another sound bite for you – “Democracy is a lynch mob.” Here’s another one – “Democracy is three wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.” Majority rule violates the rights of minorities. It’s not a good thing. Get the picture?

Our Founding Fathers went to a lot of trouble to give us a government that was fair, representing all the people in every state – to protect a minority of one against the will of a mob which isn’t too concerned about the rights of someone standing in their way. Hence the Electoral College.

The abolishment of the Electoral College would, in fact, establish an election tyranny giving control of the government to the massive population centers of the nation’s Northeastern sector, along with the area around Los Angeles. If these sections of the nation were to control the election of our nation’s leaders, the voice of the ranchers and farmers of the Mid and Far West would be lost, along with the values and virtues of the South. It would also mean the end of the Tenth Amendment and state sovereignty.”

Did you know that doing away with the Electoral College would not only cancel out part of the Constitution, as explained earlier, but would silence the voices of the majority of Americans in the majority of states? This is not fear-mongering – it’s reality. Let’s give a stark example of how the Electoral College actually preserves the voice of the People and makes elections more fair.

In the 2016 election between rabid socialist Hillary Clinton and blundering Donald Trump, Clinton won the national popular vote by 2.8 million votes, but Trump became president because the Electoral College favored him 304 to 227. To someone with a kindergartner’s IQ in constitutionalism, this may seem like a grave injustice. How can the candidate with 48.18% of the national vote lose to the contender with 46.09% of the vote, they moan? To put these raw numbers into perspective, consider a few other facts.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States. Though Hillary Clinton did in fact win the popular vote, Donald Trump won 2,654 counties! In case you thought that was a typo, let’s clarify: Donald Trump won 2,654 of 3,141 counties – 84.5% of all counties in the nation. Hillary Clinton won a measly 487. That’s no small margin of victory for the man who allegedly “stole” the election!

One study showed that far from barely winning in these 2,654 counties, Donald Trump often won by a large percentage. In addition to winning 85% of counties, Donald Trump won 30 states whereas Hillary Clinton only won 20. The voice of the overwhelming majority of American communities, therefore, wanted Donald Trump as their president. Yet the Democrats complain about how “unfair” the Electoral College system is!

In truth, a system that elected the president based on the popular vote alone would be unmistakably unfair because it would allow a clear minority – only 15% of counties and only 20 of 50 states – to select the president while disenfranchising the overwhelming majority of communities in America. Yet, the Democrats want the 85% to bow to them. Because they control several large population centers – Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and a few others – they can almost force the rest of us in non-Democrat occupied America under their yoke. They will accomplish their ghastly goal if we allow the Electoral College to be destroyed. A national popular vote would drown out the voices of those of us in the smaller states – the states where some sanity still resides.

If you look at a red and blue county map of the 2016 presidential election, you find most of the red concentrated in five basic areas – southern California and a strip along the Californian coast, New Mexico, southern Texas, Seattle, and New York. Of course there are a handful of others, but these are the largest concentrations. Do we want these few areas speaking for the rest of the nation and determining our leaders for the foreseeable future? Do those of us in heartland America want to be controlled by a few elitist cities on the coasts? This is exactly what will have if we allow the Electoral College to be terminated.

The Electoral College was set up to assure that a handful of population centers across the country cannot in perpetuity control the presidency. That’s well illustrated by the 2016 results, where Trump won vast swaths of America, but still came up short in the popular vote because of the results, essentially, in one state, California. . . .

The 2016 results really reveal that America has become two different nations: far left metropolitan and urban areas and much more conservative regions of small cities, towns and rural areas.”

Two Americas indeed! We are a nation divided between two ideologies – Americanism and communism. The Electoral College helps preserve Americanism whereas the popular vote will inevitably drag us toward communism.

The title of an article in The Hill tells us the whole story: “The 10 counties that will decide the 2020 election.” Though the piece perpetuates the lie that the last presidential election was decided by a slim 77,000 votes, and though it’s clearly wrong in which ten counties it thinks will determine the outcome of the election, it nevertheless shows the imbalance that would exist if we nullified the Electoral College and allowed the popular vote to determine national elections. We cannot allow it to happen.

In his sound article “No, Don’t Abolish the Electoral College,” Zachary Yost explained how doing away with the system would actually disenfranchise large swaths of the public rather than empowering them as anti-Electoral College elements claim:

While our states aren’t as natural as the family, they serve a similar purpose in defending their citizens from abuse and protecting their interests. This was the logic behind the establishment of our decentralized federalist system of government, where seats of power are balanced against each other in an attempt to limit potential abuses of power.

If states are important (as a “mediating institution” of sorts) for protecting their citizens from abuse by the central government, then the Electoral College is vital to ensure that every state maintains some relevance and the ability to influence the federal government. When necessary, the Electoral College might even serve as a useful tool the states could use to rein in the federal government by directly appointing electors to ensure the president is answerable to them and doesn’t ignore their interests. If presidential candidates were forced to kowtow to state governments, rather than trying to bribe the shortsighted masses, we’d see a very different incentive structure driving the national debate in which decentralization would be sure to follow.

It’s understandable why some people think eliminating institutions like the Electoral College will result in more freedom and direct control for the average person. But further centralizing our political system by eliminating federalist institutions like the Electoral College will inevitably lead to a more powerful federal government and leave individuals with fewer options if that power is abused.”

Another writer painted a bleak scenario of what it would be like to live in middle America without the Electoral College:

Without either [the Senate or the Electoral College], or with a Senate converted into a proportional representation body, as some have suggested, rural states are effectively political serfs for the larger urban centers.

The Electoral College and the Senate allow rural states to have a voice in how the country is run, rather than being totally ruled over by people in urban centers who don’t own guns, can’t grow food, and have never met their neighbors.

It’s not a coincidence that Electoral College abolition is a particular ax ground by the left. The abolition of the Electoral College would allow for sweeping changes in American public policy championed by those currently on the leftward edge of the political spectrum. Do you want to live in a country where, for example, the voters of smaller states like Nevada, New Hampshire and Montana are drowned out by a handful of cities on the coasts? What of medium-sized states with a number of post-industrial cities with their own concerns, just as valid as those of rural America, but entirely separate from the centers of financial, cultural and academic power?”

In a similar, though more foreboding vein, a third writer presented this thought:

[A]bsent the electoral college system, presidential elections would be almost entirely determined by a handful of cities including New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. And while the left would prefer to ignore the opinions of those in the “fly-over” states, we would suggest that their representation in the electoral college is a vital underpinning of American democracy . . . without such representation we’re not sure why the fly-over states would choose to remain a part of a union where they had no say.”

Despite warnings from well-informed patriots like these, a withering barrage has been initiated against the Constitution – a barrage which was aided by the Supreme Court’s democracy-promoting false opinion this past Monday. When you realize who has been advocating for the destruction of the Electoral College, the issue comes into brighter focus. For generations, radical socialists of all stripes have advocated to abolish this ingenious instrument – an instrument, as we’ve seen, that the Founders put in place to prevent the type of corruption and conspiracy that characterizes socialism. We now showcase a few of the notable figures who are actively fighting to kill the Electoral College.

Elizabeth Warren, the fake Indian lunatic, is on record calling for the abolition of the Electoral College. Before she was forced to bow out of the presidential race, she had vowed to be the last person elected by the Electoral College. By 2024, she claimed, it would be a relic of history. Among other comments, Chief Warren said:

I want to get rid of [the Electoral College]. So here’s my goal: my goal is to get elected and then to be the last American president elected by the Electoral College. I want the second term to be that I got elected by direct vote. I just think this is how a democracy should work. Call me old-fashioned, but I think the person who gets the most votes should win.”

If we were a democracy, she’s be right. But we’re not a democracy. For 233 years, the United States has rejected the democratic system and voted in the unique republican format described earlier. Of course, Warren, who doesn’t even know her own lineage, thinks she knows more than the Founding Fathers and the combined experience of the American People.

Taking a leaf from Warren’s “we’re a democracy” book, Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley opined on CNN that the Electoral College “diminishes the legitimacy of our president.” He suggested that we “embrace the notion that whoever wins an election with the most support or the most citizens, should be the person who takes the office. That’s the fundamental nature of democracy.” While it’s certainly true that in a democracy 51% of the people can dominate and utterly control the 49%, that’s never been the case in the United States. Our republican Constitution provides as system that allows the most number of people, in the greatest number of locations throughout the Union, to have their voices heard by selecting the upstanding men who select the president on their behalf.

Democrat Stacey Abrams, who claims she lost her election in Georgia due to “racism” rather than because of her own idiocy and unsound principles, has unsurprisingly screeched: “The Electoral College is racist and classist . . . Both of those things should be flung to the far reaches of history and the Electoral College needs to go.”

The failed, homosexual Democratic presidential candidate, Pete Buttigieg, has also advocated for the abolition of the Electoral College: “We can’t say it’s much of a democracy when twice in my lifetime the Electoral College has overruled the American people. Why should our vote in Indiana only count once or twice in a century? Or your vote in Wyoming or New York?” No, we can’t say it’s a democracy since it’s not. To say that we are a democracy is the height of ignorance.

I’m also unsure how Indiana’s vote supposedly only counted “once or twice” in a century, but I do know that smaller states would have dramatically less of a voice if the Electoral College was eliminated and larger states were allowed to dominate the voting process. Yet, Buttigieg says: “The electoral college needs to go because it’s made our society less and less democratic.” Either he’s totally ignorant or totally malicious. Either way, he’s a danger to the Republic.

Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who, similar to Warren’s Indian schizophrenia, can’t decide whether he’s white or Latino, said flatly: “Let’s abolish the Electoral college.” Why should we abolish this system that has worked for more than two centuries? Racism and democracy, of course:

This is one of those bad compromises we made at day one in this country. There are many others we can think of and they are all connected, including the value of some people based on the color of their skin. . . .

In this conversation about how we repair the damage, how we make things right, and how we keep from committing the same injustice going forward is squarely connected to the reason that we are all convened here today and that is fixing our democracy. So yes, if we get rid of the Electoral College, we get a little bit closer to one person, one vote in the United States of America.”

Echoing many of the same flawed arguments, Eric Holder, Obama’s scandal-ridden attorney general, complained:

We’ve got to do away with the Electoral College. We’ve got a system now that was—it’s a defect in our democracy. We have had in the last five elections two presidents who were not—win the popular vote.”

He has also Tweeted:

Time to make Electoral College a vestige of the past. It’s undemocratic, forces candidates to ignore majority of the voters and campaign in a small number of states. The presidency is our one national office and should be decided – directly – by the voters.”

Surely Holder and the others aren’t so intellectually stunted that they can’t see how getting rid of the Electoral College would do precisely what they claim to decry; namely, having a small number of states dominate all the others. Anyone who takes five minutes to honestly understand the Electoral College understands that it gives a larger number of people in a larger number of areas a voice whereas a popular vote would allow large states like California to totally control the election process – the small states be damned.

One Democrat who does appear to be intellectually stunted, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has absurdly claimed:

The Electoral College has a racial injustice breakdown. Due to severe racial disparities in certain states, the electoral college effectively weighs white voters over voters of color.”

Tom Perez, head of the Democratic National Committee is also either ignorant of the Constitution or a pathological liar. He has actually said: “The Electoral College is not a creation of the Constitution.” Because he doesn’t believe that the Electoral College isn’t in the Constitution, even though it plainly sits right there in Article 2, Section 1, he doesn’t believe Donald Trump won the 2016 election, but that Hillary Clinton rightfully should be president. It goes without saying that Hillary Clinton also detests the Electoral College and has alternatively blamed it as well as Russia, Trump, sexism, and a long list of other things, for her pathetic defeat.

Other leftists including Michael Moore, Jay Inslee, Cory Booker and Steve Cohen also hate the Electoral College and have called for its abolition. The Democratic Party in general supports doing away with the system. An Associated Press article aptly titled “2020 Democrats’ new litmus test: Abolish Electoral College” noted:

It’s the latest push by White House hopefuls to embrace a procedural tactic to rally the Democratic base, following similar calls to scrap the filibuster and increase the size of the Supreme Court. The 2020 candidates are tapping into Democratic anger after Donald Trump became the second Republican in five presidential elections to win the presidency through the Electoral College while losing the popular vote. . . .

Several Democratic-controlled states are pushing for a national popular vote. But rather than pass a constitutional amendment, these legislatures are joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, a group of states that pledge to give their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote.

The compact only goes into effect when it includes states representing 270 electoral votes, the majority needed to win the White House.”

Yes, Democrats are pushing hard to ditch the Electoral College. But let’s not forget about other radicals such as those in the Communist Party USA. What would a list of anti-Constitution agitators be without them? In an article from just two months ago, the Communist Party railed:

Take a look at how we “elect” the president of the United States. The people don’t elect the president. Rather, the Electoral College selects the president—using the total number of representatives and senators from each state and at times the perverted legal logic of the U.S. Supreme Court. Clinton received 3 million more votes than Trump in 2016, but Trump is “elected” under a system designed to give slaveholders more power when the Constitution was ratified in 1789.”

There’s no need to point out how closely the earlier Democrats echoed their Red brothers in the Communist Party USA. In a second piece from, the CPUSA stated more candidly why they want to tear down the Electoral College:

Here in the United States, our two-party electoral system is dominated by two corporate parties, the Democrats and Republicans, and the presidential results are often unfairly determined by the Electoral College. In other words, the candidate with the most votes is not necessarily the winner. No matter how flawed this system is, it is the system we must work within if we are to dismantle it, expand democracy, and lay the foundations for socialism.”

By derailing the Electoral College and promoting democracy (i.e. mobocracy), the communists know socialism can be easily established. Establishing democracy is essential to the communist plan to dupe societies and overthrow free nations. It was Karl Marx, after all, who wrote in The Communist Manifesto that “the first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class to win the battle of democracy.” In other words, in order for communism to dominate, democracy must exist; and in the United States, democracy can only truly exist when the Electoral College is destroyed.

In the end, you have to make a choice which side you will stand on and with whom you will side. Will you support the system that has sustained our election process for over two centuries or will you throw it under the bus and allow America to become like other democratic nations with all their turbulence and factional strife? Will you side with the Founding Fathers who crafted the Constitution which gave birth to the United States or with the communists, socialists, and traitors in the Democratic Party who want to overthrow the Constitution? Will you stand with George Washington, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, James Wilson, Alexander Hamilton, and other Founders or with the inglorious cast of detractors that includes Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Eric Holder, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, and Beto O’Rourke?

For me, the Constitutionin full and in total – is a clear line in the sand that must not be crossed. I will fight to defend that Heaven-sent document if need be. It is the glue that binds our People together as one. With the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution is our national standard. It must be upheld.

It maintains a balance of power so that the nation cannot be dominated by socialist California and New York. “Illegal Fireworks” on Independence Day

No fireworks on Independence Day, said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. To hell with that, said the people.” – Bruce Haring, “Los Angeles County Residents Ignore “No Fireworks” Order, Celebrate With Massive Display,” Deadline, July 5, 2020.

Yesterday was Independence Day. Independence Day marks the glorious moment that our forefathers declared their total Independence from British tyranny and embarked on the experiment of republican self-rule. It was the formal beginning of the Liberty movement that had been sweeping through the colonies and which today is gaining renewed strength among American patriots. It was, in short, the authoritative expression of our People’s desire to be free.

When the Sons of Liberty finally secured their Freedom and established the United States of America, Independence Day was celebrated from one end of the Republic to the other. As the Union expanded, so, too, did the celebrations. And why should they not have? Independence Day was not only the most significant day in U.S. history, but one of the most defining moments in world history.

John Adams fondly envisioned a day when every American could commemorate their Independence:

The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. – I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. – Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not” (John Adams to Abigail Adams, July 3, 1776).

By and large, Americans have faithfully fulfilled Mr. Adams’ hopes. Though the custom has fallen to the wayside, our People traditionally gave rousing sermons and speeches praising God for delivering us from tyranny and thanking Him for setting us up as a free People. To this day, we host large and colorful parades, brilliant firework shows, and community barbecues. You can still find historical reenactments and readings of the Declaration in locations. Bells are sometimes still sounded from church towers. Patriotic music blares over the airwaves. And in rural areas, we still shoot off guns on this special day.

However, a group of anti-American traitors has wormed their way into positions of power in our federal government and in our states. They control governorships, city councils, seats in Congress, judgeships, and so forth. This is particularly true in states like California, Oregon, Washington, New York, and Illinois where hardcore socialists now rule. This cabal of traitors has used their influence to gradually extinguish the American spirit, stifle our patriotism, and transform our country into a soulless Marxian state.

The hyped Coronavirus “pandemic” has provided the whole nation with proof of how eager this group of gangsters is to throw out the Constitution, restrict our rights, and dominate our lives. They’ve banned church services, arrested mothers playing with their children in public park, dumped tons of sand in skate parks to prevent kids from enjoying the outdoors, mandated the public wear masks that even the communist-controlled World Health Organization (WHO) admits do not work to stop viruses, forced us to stand six-feet-apart from one another like prison inmates, closed down our businesses, arrested people for trying to make a living, freed violent criminals from prisons to allegedly protect them (what about protecting us from them?), restricted travel, closed down schools, prevented people from attending doctors because they were trying to make room for “Coronavirus” patients who never arrived, and so on and so forth.

So blatant have been the attacks on our Freedom – in particular our Freedom of religious expression – that a prominent religious leader, Elder David A. Bednar, said in frustration:

We cannot deny, and we should not forget, the speed and intensity with which government power was used to shut down fundamental aspects of religious exercise. These decisions and regulations were unprecedented. For nearly two months, Americans, and many others throughout the free world, learned firsthand what it means for government to directly prohibit the free exercise of religion. . . .

. . . Government power can never be unlimited. In our political system, the government “derives its just powers from the consent of the governed,” to quote the Declaration of Independence. But the just powers of government cannot be unlimited because they exist most fundamentally to secure the God-given rights of life and liberty so that each of us can exercise our moral agency, the ability to act for ourselves and not to be acted upon, and to be accountable before God for our choices and actions. Constitutions, representative government, checks and balances, and the rule of law help constrain the tendency of government to exercise unlimited power. . . .

. . . despite the obvious need for a proper response to COVID-19, we must not become accustomed to sweeping assertions of governmental power. Invoking emergency powers, government executives summarily impose numerous orders and directives that in many ways are analogous to martial law. These executive orders are unlike laws enacted through the ordinary give and take of the democratic process. No doubt an emergency on the scale of COVID-19 justifies strong measures to protect the public, but we cannot lose sight of the fact that many of these measures are extraordinary assertions of governmental power that can dramatically constrain our basic freedoms. The power of government must have limits. . . .

. . . we can no more disregard the valid claims of religious freedom in a time of crisis than we can disregard the valid claims of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, or freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. Nor should we prioritize secular interests above religious ones. A health crisis should not become an excuse for a religious freedom crisis.”

Despite common sense of this sort, many states have used the “crisis” as a pretext for ushering in blatant tyranny that strangles our Liberty and extinguishes a multitude of our most precious rights. The abuses have been “sweeping.” They have been unapologetic. And they have been deliberate. Not only have they taken aim at everyday rights like the right to peaceably assemble, but they have been brought to bear on our most sacred national holiday – Independence Day.

If the concocted Coronavirus charade hasn’t been enough to convince you that those in positions of public trust don’t give a tinker’s dam about your Liberty, their blatant display of contempt for Independence Day should have done the trick. California is a case in point. The Democratic mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, outright banned fireworks. The L.A. Department of Public Health published a news release ordering beaches closed from the 3rd through the 6th, “prohibiting fireworks displays,” banning “large crowds and gatherings,” and going so far as to tell people they could not spend time with anyone except those they lived with – as if they had such authority!

To quote these mini-tyrants in Los Angeles: “Physical distancing isn’t optional, wearing a face covering isn’t optional, spending time only with those you live with isn’t optional – these are requirements.” Los Angeles has essentially become a dictatorship with the Democratic Party calling the shots – your Liberty be damned.

Despotic California Governor Gavin Newsom came out and supported the de facto canceling of Independence Day and declared similar measures across the whole state. Newsom threatened to cut off funds to local governments who did not go along with the plot to cancel Independence Day in California. He bullied local governments in these words:

A local government that refuses to abide by, ensure compliance with, or take enforcement action against noncompliance with these statewide public health directives, or that takes action that is otherwise incongruent with these directives, could jeopardize their eligibility for state funding.”

California has been enacting Marxist measures for a lot of years, but now, using the 99.8% survivable Coronavirus as an excuse, they have gone full-blown Bolshevik. Various state agencies have created ominously-named “strike teams” to go after those violating “public safety” measures (i.e. exercising their God-given, constitutionally-protected Liberty). Office of Emergency Services spokesman Brian Ferguson warned how the strike teams would be used this Independence Day weekend:

We will be going directly to those who thumb their nose at public health and safety. State government will be out in force this weekend to make sure all California businesses and service providers are doing their part to slow the spread of COVID-19.”

In other words, the Almighty Californian State will use its police power to force compliance with Liberty-violating measures allegedly enacted to “keep you safe.” What makes this all the more insulting is the fact that this comes on Independence Day – a time for the explicit celebration of Freedom from tyrannical government! Surely no right thinking individual can miss the irony of prohibiting Americans from celebrating Freedom on their cherished Independence Day!

In spite of government threats and bullying, thousands of people in Los Angeles disobeyed the mayor’s and governor’s dictates yesterday. A broadcast on KCAL 9 aired helicopter footage of the city. In every direction, fireworks illuminated the night sky. Red, white, yellow – the dazzling colors exploded in nearly every neighborhood. One Californian commenter on Facebook said that the city felt like “Baghdad.” On the same thread, another person replied: “It’s friggin Iraq in the city!! I’ve never heard it like this!”

An involuntary smile crossed my face as I watched Americans doing what Americans do best – defy tyrants and exercise their rights. I watched multiple clips of the fireworks in L.A. Everywhere you looked you could see phenomenal pyrotechnics, reminding me of the “rocket’s red glare” in Francis Scott Key’s immortal anthem.

The same KCAL 9 newscast mentioned earlier noted that police had received over a thousand complaints from people snitching on their neighbors for launching “illegal fireworks” (i.e. any fireworks). The LAPD finally asked people to stop calling 911 about fireworks. Apparently, a lot of people get offended by Independence Day and Freedom in Los Angeles. However, a larger number apparently still retain some sense of love for their country.

Though these same people were the ones who elected those public servants who are now trying to dominate and tyrannize them, this very public display of defiance demonstrates that many are fed up with the oppression and want their Freedom back. At the very least, they don’t want to be treated like children who can’t take care of themselves without a government commissar hovering over them. To be sure, some of the revelers just wanted to party. Who can blame them? But I believe many were using the Independence Day season as a chance to show their disapproval of the government’s heavy hand in their lives.

One article explained that Californians have been defying their government’s fireworks bans for weeks:

[E]xplosions and roman candles have been going off for weeks, culminating in a massive display on Saturday night.

Police claimed more than 1,000 fireworks complaints came in to various branches, and they tried to respond. But the task was akin to shoveling the ocean with a spoon . . . the city was ablaze with lights and sounds for many hours on Saturday night.”

I repeat: The fact that governments tried to prohibit us celebrating and exercising our Freedom on Independence Day shows that they hold our rights in utter contempt and seek, regardless of their alleged concern about “public safety,” to control our lives.

All would-be-dictators who seek to dominate the United States need to know that we won’t tolerate it. When our back is pushed up against the wall, we won’t surrender – we’ll fight. Freemen don’t live on their knees. We don’t kneel before thrones. We don’t bow to emperors. We don’t kiss the rings of kings. And we certainly don’t kow-tow to our elected representatives.

American citizens are the masters of their government, not the other way around. We are not governed “masses” or servile subjects. We are American freemen! The blood of patriots runs in our veins. Our ancestors called themselves Sons of Liberty, defied tyrants, and forged their Freedom from the chains created to enslave them.

America has suffered many dark days because we’ve been too kind and forgiving. We’ve tolerated abuses that our forefathers never would have tolerated. We’ve permitted those very things that the Declaration of Independence denounces in plain language, such as allowing government bureaucrats to make us “dependent on [their] Will alone,” establishing “Arbitrary government,” creating “a multitude of New Offices” which send their “swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance,” and “destroy[ing] the lives of our people.”

Yes, we have been far too lenient! We’ve given our public servants the benefit of the doubt that they just want to help us. It should be painfully obvious now to everyone that our representatives look down on us, view us as children to be micromanaged, and spit upon our rights. Their oaths to the Constitution mean nothing to them; they certainly don’t follow them. They’re in it for power, wealth, and fame regardless of how much We the People suffer or how many rights we lose.

I applaud Los Angeles’ defiant fireworks display. It was a very visible symbol of resistance to tyrannical government overreach and a sign that there are few a still embers of Freedom burning in California. However, this defiance must translate into daily acts of resistance or it ultimately means very little. To shoot off fireworks on Independence Day in defiance of government mandates, but to turn around and wear silly masks or comply with “social distancing” dictates, is inconsistent with logic. It also shows that people did not truly comprehend the special meaning of the event they were celebrating.

Independence Day should have been a time for us as a People to regroup, recommit ourselves to the cause of Liberty, and humble ourselves before our Creator. This day, the Lord’s Day, we have the opportunity to again bow ourselves before God, thank Him for His blessings upon our favored land, and petition Him for deliverance from the shackles that our “representatives” are attempting to place on our wrists.

To a great extend, we’ve already fallen from grace and lost must of our Freedom. But the sacred fire of Liberty is not out yet. Millions of Americans honor our forefathers, love our unique American institutions, and will not go down without a fight. Even in California, of all places, thousands are willing to risk police visits and fines by shooting off fireworks to celebrate our nation’s Independence. This should give us hope that though the struggle will be fierce, we can succeed and win back our rights. If we go forward in the power of Jesus Christ, we can restore our Republic.

I express my unshakable belief that Americans will restore their Republic eventually. Our flag will wave proudly on the flag pole. Independence Day will be celebrated precisely as John Adams envisioned – with devotions to God and shows and parades and guns and bells from one end of this blessed continent to the other. However, it will likely require the “Toil and Blood and Treasure” that John Adams said was required to win our Independence in the first place.

God bless this nation! God bless the good-hearted people who inhabit America by the tens of millions! And God help us maintain our Constitution and the precious rights it safeguards, even if it means defying tyrants to do it!

The Ongoing American Revolution

The American Revolution was not an event that began and ended at two fixed points in time. We mark the beginning of the War for Independence on July 4, 1776, and traditionally say the Revolution ended in 1783 with the Treaty of Paris, but the reality is that Independence Day merely marked a boiling point in a sweeping Liberty movement that began much earlier and which has not yet reached its culmination. The American Revolution is ongoing! The War for Independence is being waged today as fiercely as when our patriot forefathers squared off against the British invaders.

In 1787, Dr. Benjamin Rush made an illuminating remark. He said:

There is nothing more common, than to confound the terms of American Revolution with those of the late American war. The American war is over: but this is far from being the case with the American revolution. On the contrary, nothing but the first act of the great drama is closed. It remains yet to establish and perfect our new forms of government; and to prepare the principles, morals, and manners of our citizens, for these forms of government, after they are established and brought to perfection” (Benjamin Rush, Address to the People of the United States, 1787, in Hezekiah Niles, ed., Principles and Acts of the Revolution, 234).

According to Dr. Rush, the genuine American Revolution consisted of the transformation and improvement of the “principles, morals, and manners” of the American People. What’s more, he saw this as a gradual process that, years after the War for Independence ended, had not yet finished. It was one thing to create a new nation with a novel system of government, but quite another thing to create a citizenry prepared for life under that government. Molding such a people – one worthy of republican institutions of self-government – was the true revolutionary task.

Another Founding Father, John Adams, concurred that the real American Revolution was not the short War for Independence, but a vastly more significant undertaking. He observed:

But what do We mean by the American Revolution? Do We mean the American War? The Revolution was effected before the War commenced. The Revolution was in the Minds and Hearts of the People. A Change in their Religious Sentiments of their Duties and Obligations. . . .

This radical Change in the Principles, Opinions Sentiments and Affection of the People, was the real American Revolution” (John Adams to Hezekiah Niles, February 13, 1818).

Both Dr. Rush and Mr. Adams agreed that the betterment of American principles and morals – both religious and political – was the real American Revolution. This Revolution happened in the hearts and minds of our countrymen long before the shot heard ‘round the world and continued long after the cannon ceased firing. One could look back to the Reformation or Renaissance to find the origin of the Liberty movement that eventually found its true expression in America. But for our purposes, we can trace the origin of the flame of Freedom to the First Great Awakening that took place roughly between the 1730s and 1760s.

It was during the First Great Awakening, when Americans turned their hearts back to the great God of the universe, that the revolution of principles spoken of by John Adams occurred. Church pulpits were ablaze with fiery sermons on Freedom. Preachers led the way in social reform and prepared Americans to defend their rights and stand like real men against despots. Schools were no less valuable. Teachers instructed children not only in constitutional principles and the science of good government, but in the “perfect law of liberty” given by Jesus Christ (James 1:25). In short, American Christians kneeled before the Lord in genuine humility, and then rose with staunch determination to follow Him and safeguard their God-given rights.

It was a band of Christian militiamen, inspired by their Reverend Jonas Clark, who defiantly stood with Captain John Parker on Lexington green in 1775 as an army of 700 Redcoats came to confiscate their firearms. It was a band of 56 patriots who signed and published the Declaration of Independence, announcing their determination to be free and their proclaiming their firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence.” And it was the Christian Father of our Country, George Washington, who told the nation during his First Inaugural Address:

No People can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the Affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.”

It was this acknowledgment of God and His laws, including the “perfect law of liberty” noted earlier, that gave our forefathers the strength and tenacity to stand against monarchical tyranny. They were an educated and bright People. They understood self-government and cherished their Freedom to worship their God according to the dictates of their conscience, their Freedom to speak, their Freedom to assemble, their Freedom to bear and use arms to protect themselves and their rights, and so forth. In short, it was their mental and spiritual devotion to their Faith, Families, and Freedom, and their fidelity to these loyalties, that called down Heaven’s blessings on their behalf.

Our noble forefathers did not stop progressing when they went back to the business of daily life after the Revolution. Rather, they went on to produce the inspired Constitution and Bill of Rights, expand the borders of the Republic, and, thus, the borders of Liberty, alter their local laws and customs, prepare to end the vice of slavery, and generally became an industrious, enlightened, and patriotic People.

According to one contemporary figure of significant renown, American greatness reached its zenith during the Age of Jackson. He observed:

In continuation of such noble sentiments, Gen. [Andrew] Jackson, upon his ascension to the great chair of the chief magistracy: said, “As long as our government is administered for the good of the people, and is regulated by their will; as long as it secures to us the rights of person and property, liberty of conscience, and of the press, it will be worth defending; and so long as it is worth defending, a patriotic militia will cover it with an impenetrable aegis.”

General Jackson’s administration may be denominated the acme of American glory, liberty and prosperity, for the national debt, which in 1815, on account of the late war, was $125,000,000, and lessened gradually, was paid up in his golden day; and preparations were made to distribute the surplus revenue among the several states: and that august patriot, to use his own words in his farewell address, retired leaving “a great people prosperous and happy, in the full enjoyment of liberty and peace, honored and respected by every nation of the world”” (Joseph Smith, General Smith’s Views of the Powers and Policy of Government of the United States, February, 1844).

Andrew Jackson was one of the greatest American heroes. Today, he is hated and castigated by an ignorant generation that has lost touch with America’s original values and has been deceived by culture-destroying Marxists. But the truth is that General Jackson put America first, fought for his country his whole life as a soldier and statesman, fastidiously upheld the Constitution as president, waged veritable war against the conspiratorial banking cartel that wanted to enslave the Union, and was an honorable man of his word.

Additionally, President Jackson was the only president to ever pay off the national debt in full. The American People prospered under his hand and it was during his administration that Alexis de Tocqueville visited the United States and remarked:

The progress of society in America is precipitate, and almost revolutionary. . . .

. . . The Americans of the United States must inevitably become one of the greatest nations in the world; their offset will cover almost the whole of North America; the continent which they inhabit is their dominion, and it cannot escape them . . . Riches, power, and renown, cannot fail to be theirs at some future time” (Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America, Vol. 1, 434-435).

The American People did not stop their rapid progress and march toward destiny after the War for Independence. That was but a prelude to greater things. For them, as for Benjamin Rush, the American Revolution was ongoing; a process, not an event.

However, after the Age of Jackson, the Republic began to decline in important ways. Over time, we became so prosperous, powerful, and prominent in the world that we began to shed our humility, forget our past, and neglect our participation in self-government. We became reluctant to enforce the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and apply the Constitution as broadly as it was intended to be applied. The Civil War later rocked the nation, caused deep wounds, and resulted in a massively enlarged government that began intruding into our lives as never before.

In spite of the trials of the Nineteenth Century, on the whole, our People put their trust in God and looked to the Constitution and the men who made it for guidance. As the decades slipped by, the pull of prosperity and allure of modern conveniences took us away from the pursuit of Liberty and thrust us into the pursuit of materialism. We stopped studying the art of law. We ignored our governmental duties, allowing an organized group of traitors to come to power over us. We lived our lives in relative peace and disinterest as they hijacked our economy through the Federal Reserve. They put their men – FDR, Wilson, Carter, Bush, Obama, and others – into the presidency. They changed our laws and amended the Constitution in frightful ways. They thrust a dagger in Lady Liberty’s back and began twisting it menacingly.

Closer to home, the agents of cultural Marxism went to work to warp our view of marriage and families. They promoted hedonism and placed sex on a pedestal. They pushed filth and degeneracy, greed and selfishness, perversion and humanism. We began to lose our faith in the Creator – the source from whence our forefathers said came our unalienable rights of life, Liberty, and property. And so it has gone for over a century until now we see the fruit of the gruesome harvest – chaos, rioting, violence, hatred, division, unchecked governmental power, neglect of the Constitution, scientific and medical tyranny, anti-Christian bullying, high-tech censorship, societal distrust, and rampant unbelief in God.

Despite this growing darkness, many of the good people of this nation are waking up. It is in darkness, after all, that the light shines brightest. People from coast to coast have realized that the conspiracy – call it the “swamp,” “deep state,” the “Establishment,” or whatever name you will – is very real and threatens to overturn our Faith, Families, and Freedom. The American giant is beginning to stir and push back against the bands that traitors have tied around her. Lady Liberty is waking up from her deep sleep.

A general feeling is beginning to filter out and permeate the nation wherever good people still reside. It’s palpable and vibrant. The feeling is that revolution is upon us – the time for cleansing and refreshing is nearly here. Perhaps unconsciously, millions of Americans feel what Thomas Jefferson felt and articulated. He said:

[W]hat country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure” (Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, November 13, 1787).

But how will we rally ourselves and refresh the tree of Liberty? Everywhere I go, on every social media page I visit, in church congregations, and in private conversations, I see people asking roughly the same questions: “Where is the next George Washington? Where is our generation’s Thomas Jefferson? When will the next Boston Tea Party happen? When will someone step forward to lead another revolution to reclaim our Freedom?”

As these questions demonstrate, the sincere desire for change – for a return to our roots – is there. It may be in its infancy, but it is growing and rapidly gaining strength. It needs focus, however. It needs leaders. It needs experienced patriots to form us into a fighting force for Freedom.

In an attributed letter of Samuel Adams to James Warren on October 24, 1780, we find these relevant words: “If ever the Time should come, when vain & aspiring Men shall possess the highest Seats in Government, our Country will stand in Need of its experienced Patriots to prevent its Ruin.”

Where are we to find such men and women? Where are the John Adamses and George Washingtons? Where are the Sons of Liberty and militiamen of Concord Bridge? Who will step forward to lead the next chapter in the ongoing American Revolution?

The answer is two-fold. First, though you and I may not be the next George Washington, we may be like those men who marched in his army, crossed the frigid Delaware with him on Christmas morning, and together endured winter in Valley Forge. We may not command the patriot force, but we may be part of it. It may be our eternal honor to march alongside other patriots, either figuratively or literally, to victories as glorious as Yorktown.

No, we may never wear the general’s cap, but we can wear the revolutionary uniform. What good is even the greatest general without his fighting men? What good are fighting men without virtuous women supporting them? And in the war of ideas and principles, women – as mothers and as homemakers – have an absolutely essential role to play. We cannot effect a new revolution without their selfless service in the home, for as goes the home goes the nation.

To elaborate, I ask, what good is a Declaration of Independence without men to win, and then maintain, Independence? There could have been no Age of Jackson with its prosperity and expansion without those willing to establish and sustain the great institutions of our Republic. Thankfully, earlier patriots have already established beautiful constitutional institutions for us. We don’t need to think outside the box – we need to merely dust out the box of the filth that has cluttered it. And we can kick-start the process by educating ourselves in correct principles.

To repeat, this war is primarily waged on the battlefields of the mind and heart. It is waged on Facebook and Twitter, in public school classrooms and around the dinner table, in private conversations with friends and worship services with your neighbors. It is waged on election day as well as every other day. Our just and holy cause is furthered by acts of service in our communities, by giving proper instruction to our children, by coherent and sincere social media posts, by participation in peaceful assemblies, and by a million other little acts, words, and moments that come in daily life.

Together, these seemingly small deeds constitute a revolution in principles, morals, and manners. Do not think you need George Washington to ride before you in order to participate in the ongoing American Revolution. It is your distinct privilege to fight these battles every day in your home, at church, at work, online, and in the most basic interactions with your countrymen. There will be no great political revolution until we first reform our minds and hearts as our ancestors did prior to challenging the British at Lexington and Concord.

Second, though we all must be engaged in the daily acts of revolution just described, there must be individuals who step forward to rally, unify, and lead those who love Liberty. These figures must have dignity and credibility. They must be men of honor, goodness, virtue, truth, and stability. They must be men of high ideals and lofty standards. They must be noble in heart, valiant in spirit, but humble enough to kneel before their God and petition His blessings upon our cause.

Patriot leaders must be found and thrust to the forefront. As it often goes, the most qualified for leadership are those who want nothing more than to live in peace. They don’t seek the limelight, but merely to do their part, quietly, to support their Faith, Family, and Freedom.

It is instructive to know that George Washington did not want to lead the Continental Army. Yet, he threw himself into the task when the People’s representatives called on him to do so. After the War for Independence, he retired to the peace and quite of his farm. Yet, when his countrymen selected him to be the first president, he came out of retirement and fulfilled that duty honorably. The same is true of Thomas Jefferson, who retired to Monticello before being drafted by his country to serve in the government. And that is the key word – serve. We don’t need self-important politicians, but public servants who labor on our behalf to secure for us the blessings of Liberty.

Today, we must find those people in our communities who are prepared for a call to service. They may not want to serve, they may not want to hold a position of public trust, they may not want to wade into the treacherous swamp of modern politics, but they will respond to the call the serve because their hearts burn with the fire of Freedom. It is our duty as citizens to find the next Thomas Jefferson and draft him into leadership. It is our duty as freemen to find the next George Washington and urge him to lead us against the traitors who have entrenched themselves in our nation. In short, we may say that the next George Washington will not appear unless We the People call him into service.

Dear reader, America is the greatest nation on earth, bar none. There has never been a greater Republic. There has never been a People who did more good for the cause of Freedom than the People of the United States. Our country is sick with an alien virus – the Red Plague of communism with its horrid atheism, immorality, and totalitarianism. We must recognize that this plague is hostile to everything our People stands for and that it will result in our demise as a free nation if we do not recognize it, quarantine it, and exterminate it.

Let’s first extinguish the virus in our hearts and minds by turning back to the God who granted us life and Liberty, to the Constitution which holds our Union together, and to the Founding Fathers who marked the path to Freedom for all peoples in all generations. Let’s rekindle the unique American spirit. On the eve of battle in 1776, George Washington encouraged his men to “remember . . . that you are Freemen, fighting for the blessings of liberty” (George Washington General Orders, August 23, 1776). Let’s do our part to remind ourselves, and teach our precious children, that we are freemen fighting for our Faith, Families, and Freedom!

Speaking at Mount Rushmore on July 3, 2020, President Donald Trump made the following pledge which we can all claim as our own. It can be our starting place as revolutionary Americans. It can be our promise to ourselves and our children:

[L]et us go forward united in our purpose and re-dedicated in our resolve. We will raise the next generation of American patriots. We will write the next thrilling chapter of the American adventure. And we will teach our children to know that they live in a land of legends, that nothing can stop them, and that no one can hold them down. They will know that in America, you can do anything, you can be anything, and together, we can achieve anything.

Uplifted by the titans of Mount Rushmore, we will find unity that no one expected; we will make strides that no one thought possible. This country will be everything that our citizens have hoped for, for so many years, and that our enemies fear — because we will never forget that American freedom exists for American greatness. And that’s what we have: American greatness.

Centuries from now, our legacy will be the cities we built, the champions we forged, the good we did, and the monuments we created to inspire us all.

My fellow citizens: America’s destiny is in our sights. America’s heroes are embedded in our hearts. America’s future is in our hands. And ladies and gentlemen: the best is yet to come.”

Yes, the best is still to come! We will yet see dark days. They will inevitably grow darker than they are now. But even as our enemies make their final, vain attempt to subjugate our nation, our People will awaken, arise, and rally behind the inspired standard of Liberty. We will recapture the Faith of our forefathers, fortify our Families, and reclaim our Freedom. Victory will be ours!

My soul gushes with thanksgiving to my God for the blessings He has rained down upon America! I love America! I love the Constitution and the honorable men who created it, which includes one of my own ancestors, Caleb Strong, to whom I pay tribute. I love the unrivaled heritage of Freedom we posses here in America. Let us never take it for granted. Let’s gather our children around us today, read to them the Declaration of Independence, and convey to them how much we love this land and the unparalleled rights we enjoy here.

The Natural Law of Self-Defense

Man’s right of self-defense did not begin with the adoption of the Second Amendment. It has nothing to do with guns or with the U.S. Constitution. In fact, it has no connection whatsoever to any man-made law or technology. Self-defense by any means is a natural human right that each person enjoys by virtue of his or her humanity. It is the right which guarantees all others.

One of the most provocative statements ever made on how comprehensive our individual right of self-defense is was made by the famed English philosopher John Locke in his Second Treatise on Government. Locke, whose political philosophy greatly influenced our American Founding Fathers, explained how the natural law works and why the individual is justified in defending himself with lethal force when necessary:

THE state of war is a state of enmity and destruction: and therefore declaring by word or action, not a passionate and hasty, but a sedate settled design upon another man’s life, puts him in a state of war with him against whom he has declared such an intention, and so has exposed his life to the other’s power to be taken away by him, or any one that joins with him in his defence, and espouses his quarrel; it being reasonable and just, I should have a right to destroy that which threatens me with destruction: for, by the fundamental law of nature, man being to be preserved as much as possible, when all cannot be preserved, the safety of the innocent is to be preferred: and one may destroy a man who makes war upon him, or has discovered an enmity to his being, for the same reason that he may kill a wolf or a lion; because such men are not under the ties of the common law of reason, have no other rule, but that of force and violence, and so may be treated as beasts of prey, those dangerous and noxious creatures, that will be sure to destroy him whenever he falls into their power.

And hence it is, that he who attempts to get another man into his absolute power, does thereby put himself into a state of war with him; it being to be understood as a declaration of a design upon his life: for I have reason to conclude, that he who would get me into his power without my consent, would use me as he pleased when he had got me there, and destroy me too when he had a fancy to it; for no body can desire to have me in his absolute power, unless it be to compel me by force to that which is against the right of my freedom, i.e. make me a slave. To be free from such force is the only security of my preservation; and reason bids me look on him, as an enemy to my preservation, who would take away that freedom which is the fence to it; so that he who makes an attempt to enslave me, thereby puts himself into a state of war with me. He that, in the state of nature, would take away the freedom that belongs to any one in that state, must necessarily be supposed to have a design to take away every thing else, that freedom being the foundation of all the rest; as he that, in the state of society, would take away the freedom belonging to those of that society or commonwealth, must be supposed to design to take away from them every thing else, and so be looked on as in a state of war.

This makes it lawful for a man to kill a thief, who has not in the least hurt him, nor declared any design upon his life, any farther than, by the use of force, so to get him in his power, as to take away his money, or what he pleases, from him; because using force, where he has no right, to get me into his power, let his pretence be what it will, I have no reason to suppose, that he, who would take away my liberty, would not, when he had me in his power, take away every thing else. And therefore it is lawful for me to treat him as one who has put himself into a state of war with me, i.e. kill him if I can; for to that hazard does he justly expose himself, whoever introduces a state of war, and is aggressor in it.

. . . force, or a declared design of force, upon the person of another, where there is no common superior on earth to appeal to for relief, is the state of war: and it is the want of such an appeal gives a man the right of war even against an aggressor, tho’ he be in society and a fellow subject. Thus a thief, whom I cannot harm, but by appeal to the law, for having stolen all that I am worth, I may kill, when he sets on me to rob me but of my horse or coat; because the law, which was made for my preservation, where it cannot interpose to secure my life from present force, which, if lost, is capable of no reparation, permits me my own defence, and the right of war, a liberty to kill the aggressor, because the aggressor allows not time to appeal to our common judge, nor the decision of the law, for remedy in a case where the mischief may be irreparable. Want of a common judge with authority, puts all men in a state of nature: force without right, upon a man’s person, makes a state of war, both where there is, and is not, a common judge” (Locke, Second Treatise on Government, Chapter 3, Sections 17-19).

Elsewhere in his Treatise, Locke explained:

In transgressing the law of nature, the offender declares himself to live by another rule than that of reason and common equity, which is that measure God has set to the actions of men, for their mutual security; and so he becomes dangerous to mankind, the tye, which is to secure them from injury and violence, being slighted and broken by him. Which being a trespass against the whole species, and the peace and safety of it, provided for by the law of nature, every man upon this score, by the right he hath to preserve mankind in general, may restrain, or where it is necessary, destroy things noxious to them, and so may bring such evil on any one, who hath transgressed that law, as may make him repent the doing of it, and thereby deter him, and by his example others, from doing the like mischief. And in the case, and upon this ground, MAN HATH A RIGHT TO PUNISH THE OFFENDER, AND BE EXECUTIONER OF THE LAW OF NATURE. . . .

From these two distinct rights, the one of punishing the crime for restraint, and preventing the like offence, which right of punishing is in every body; the other of taking reparation, which belongs only to the injured party, comes it to pass that the magistrate, who by being magistrate hath the common right of punishing put into his hands, can often, where the public good demands not the execution of the law, remit the punishment of criminal offences by his own authority, but yet cannot remit the satisfaction due to any private man for the damage he has received. That, he who has suffered the damage has a right to demand in his own name, and he alone can remit: the damnified person has this power of appropriating to himself the goods or service of the offender, by right of self preservation, as every man has a power to punish the crime, to prevent its being committed again, by the right he has of preserving all mankind, and doing all reasonable things he can in order to that end: and thus it is, that every man, in the state of nature, has a power to kill a murderer, both to deter others from doing the like injury, which no reparation can compensate, by the example of the punishment that attends it from every body, and also to secure men from the attempts of a criminal, who having renounced reason, the common rule and measure God hath given to mankind, hath, by the unjust violence and slaughter he hath committed upon one, declared war against all mankind, and therefore may be destroyed as a lion or a tyger, one of those wild savage beasts, with whom men can have no society nor security: and upon this is grounded that great law of nature, Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed” (Locke, Second Treatise, Chapter 2, Sections 8 and 11).

Finally, Locke observed:

Man being born, as has been proved, with a title to perfect freedom, and an uncontrouled enjoyment of all the rights and privileges of the law of nature, equally with any other man, or number of men in the world, hath by nature a power, not only to preserve his property, that is, his life, liberty and estate, against the injuries and attempts of other men; but to judge of, and punish the breaches of that law in others, as he is persuaded the offence deserves, even with death itself, in crimes where the heinousness of the fact, in his opinion, requires it” (Locke, Treatise, Chapter 7, Section 87).

Let’s recapitulate a few of the things we’ve learned from Mr. Locke. Locke explained that there exists a “fundamental law of nature” which gives the individual a right to “destroy that which threatens” him. When someone cuts the common ties, or laws, that bind a society together and protect its members, he becomes “noxious” and dangerous to the society. In fact, he enters into a “state of war” against those whose rights – whether their life, Liberty, and property – are threatened. Inasmuch as a person behaves like a “savage beast” and endangers those around him, he may be put down like a mad dog. This is not only common sense, but a right we each enjoy in the “state of nature.”

Some may argue, however, that we do not live in a “state of nature.” We can all admit that this is accurate. We live in a well-ordered society with laws, a police force, judges, systems of justice, mechanisms to redress grievances, and so forth. However, to deny our individual right of self-defense merely because we live in a society tramples on the very idea of natural rights and the most basic conception of Freedom.

Samuel Adams explained that we always retain our rights regardless of whether we enter into civil society. A person, if he chooses, may exist society at any time. When he does, he takes all his rights with him. We cannot, according to Mr. Adams, renounce our rights because they are endowments from Almighty God. He explained:

All men have a right to remain in a state of nature as long as they please; and in case of intolerable oppression, civil or religious, to leave the society they belong to, and enter into another.

When men enter into society, it is by voluntary consent. . . .

The natural liberty of man, by entering into society, is abridged or restrained, so far only as is necessary for the great end of society, the best good of the whole.

In the state of nature every man is, under God, judge and sole judge of his own rights and of the injuries done him. By entering into society he agrees to an arbiter or indifferent judge between him and his neighbors; but he no more renounces his original right than by taking a cause out of the ordinary course of law, and leaving the decision to referees or indifferent arbitrators. . . .

The natural liberty of man is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of man, but only to have the law of nature for his rule. . . .

In short, it is the greatest absurdity to suppose it in the power of one, or any number of men, at the entering into society, to renounce their essential natural rights, or the means of preserving those rights; when the grand end of civil government, from the very nature of its institution, is for the support, protection, and defence of those very rights; the principal of which, as is before observed, are Life, Liberty, and Property. If men, through fear, fraud, or mistake, should in terms renounce or give up any essential natural right, the eternal law of reason and the grand end of society would absolutely vacate such renunciation. The right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty, it is not in the power of man to alienate this gift and voluntarily become a slave” (Samuel Adams, “The Rights of the Colonists,” November 20, 1772).

Please note that Adams said people do not “renounce their essential natural rights, or the means of preserving those rights” when they agree to live in society with others. These prerogatives – to enjoy one’s natural rights and to defend them – always remain with the individual. It is “the greatest absurdity” to say we do not have a right to defend and preserve our other essential rights.

We allow police and others to defend us because, on paper, this system operates more efficiently. However, law enforcement personnel have no inherent right to police our neighborhoods. They have no intrinsic power to stop criminals just as courts have no inborn authority to punish criminals. Every power and authority a police officer posses comes directly from you, the individual. And this authority is merely on loan and can be reclaimed at any time – such as when no police are present or when public servants abuse the authority you have loaned them. The same is true with any and all powers claimed by government. They belong, of right, to individuals first and foremost.

Furthermore, there are many times in society when the individual does not have immediate access to society’s collective means of self-defense – whether law enforcement, the courts, or the nation’s armies – yet must immediately address a threat to his life, Liberty, or property. Such instances may include a woman walking down the road who needs to defend herself from sexual assault, a man defending his family from a home invader during the middle of the night, a store owner protecting his property and livelihood from arsonists or vandals, a person being carjacked by a criminal while driving to work, or a church-goer who suddenly find himself faced with a maniac attempting to shoot up his congregation. In these and myriad other scenarios, there is no possible way to reach out to society for help; there is no time to wait for the police to arrive, for the sheriff to investigate the matter, or for a jury to deliberate.

All of these instances share at least one thing in common; namely, that the victim’s rights are being violated. In the case of the woman, someone is trying to violate her body and free will or, in other words, her Liberty. In the case of the store owner, someone is trying to destroy his property. In the case of the church-goer, his and other innocent people’s right to life is threatened. In the case of the man defending his family or the person being carjacked, he doesn’t know the intention of the perpetrator is – kidnapping, murder, robbery, rape, etc., – and must act as if any of these is a distinct possibility.

Consider what John Locke said in the quote above: “He that, in the state of nature, would take away the freedom that belongs to any one . . . must necessarily be supposed to have a design to take away every thing else, that freedom being the foundation of all the rest.” We don’t know the intention of someone who is attacking, robbing, or otherwise assaulting us. All we know for certain is that a person is trampling our precious rights and clearly has no respect for us, the law, or morality.

A person who would violate any of your cherished rights automatically shows that he holds all your other rights in contempt. Such a person, theoretically, is capable of any thing – including taking your life. Since you do not know his intention, but simply know that he is willing to violate your rights, you must treat him as an existential threat to all of your Liberties. Remember, Locke explained:

This makes it lawful for a man to kill a thief, who has not in the least hurt him, nor declared any design upon his life, any farther than, by the use of force, so to get him in his power, as to take away his money, or what he pleases, from him; because using force, where he has no right, to get me into his power, let his pretence be what it will, I have no reason to suppose, that he, who would take away my liberty, would not, when he had me in his power, take away every thing else. And therefore it is lawful for me to treat him as one who has put himself into a state of war with me, i.e. kill him if I can.”

It is lawful, according to the law of nature, to kill one who attempts to violate your right to life, Liberty, or property. This is the most basic and fundamental principle in the book of Liberty. “In the state of nature every man is, under God, judge and sole judge of his own rights and of the injuries done him,” as Samuel Adams said. When a state of war and hostility is commenced against you by an assailant whose intentions are unknown, you become the “judge and sole judge” of your rights and have a just right to defend yourself, your life, your Freedom, your family, your dignity as a human being, and your property. I would even argue that you have a duty to defend your rights since they are gifts from Almighty God.

Self-defense is not a new concept – wherever there is Liberty, there exists the right to defend it and those who enjoy it. Self-defense is an eternal law recognized by enlightened people in all ages. Anciently, the Roman statesman Cicero explained:

[T]here exists a law, not written down anywhere but inborn in our hearts; a law which comes to us not by training or custom or reading but by derivation and absorption and adoption from nature itself; a law which has come to us not from theory but from practice, not by instruction but by natural intuition. I refer to the law which lays it down that, if our lives are endangered by plots or violence or armed robbers or enemies, any and every method of protecting ourselves is morally right. When weapons reduce them to silence, the laws no longer expect one to await their pronouncements. For people who decide to wait for these will have to wait for justice, too – and meanwhile they must suffer injustice first. Indeed, even the wisdom of the law itself, by a sort of tacit implication, permits self-defense, because it does not actually forbid men to kill; what it does, instead, is to forbid the bearing of a weapon with the intention to kill. When, therefore, an inquiry passes beyond the mere question of the weapon and starts to consider the motive, a man who has used arms in self-defence is not regarded as having carried them with a homicidal aim” (Stephen P. Halbrook, That Every Man Be Armed: The Evolution of a Constitutional Right, 13).

I repeat: Self-defense is part of the “natural law.” The natural law written in our hearts by the finger of God permits us to defend ourselves against “plots or violence or armed robbers or enemies.” Literally “every method” and means to defend ourselves when endangered is “morally right.” Not only is it morally correct to defend ourselves, our lives, and our property, but the Declaration of Independence and Constitution both support the idea and enshrine it in the regal robes of legality.

Let’s leave behind the realm of the hypothetical and discuss a real example. Two nights ago, in Hunter, Oklahoma, a man shot a woman who entered his property at 3 A.M. and attempted to steal a flag. The flag was the National Socialist flag bearing the swastika. Whether or not you think he should have been flying the flag is not on trial here. What is being discussed, however, is the actual situation – that is, an individual trespassing on someone’s property at 3 A.M., attempting a robbery, and being shot in the process of fleeing with stolen property.

Since the incident, the local “authorities” have confiscated the man’s fourteen firearms and have charged him with “shooting with the intent to kill and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.” They are holding him without bail despite the fact that he was compliant with police and has never caused any trouble. One anonymous individual, in fact, said the man was very nice and would mow neighbors’ lawns and smile and wave. In spite of all this, he is being treated as a murderer.

The woman, by the way, survived the incident and is being treated for her wounds. Amazingly, the district attorney has not yet decided whether to charge her with a crime despite the fact that no one denies she was trying to steal property from the man’s home! I doubt whether the criminals who previously stole the man’s flag’s were charged with theft or trespassing either.

If I was on the jury that will try this case, given the information we know at this point, my conscience would not allow me to convict the man of anything. I’m quite sure John Locke would also vote “not guilty.” It was he, after all, who said, that it is “lawful for a man to kill a thief, who has not in the least hurt him, nor declared any design upon his life.” How can we refute his logic?

When you examine stories like this one from Oklahoma, don’t fall into the trap of asking whether the man should have fired his weapon. That’s not the point. That’s irrelevant, in fact. That is between him and his God. What you need to decide, rather, is whether or not the man had a right to defend himself and his property with force.

I contend that each of us has a natural right of self-defense which no earthly force, no government, no majority, no law, can ever erase. I hold it as sacrosanct that the laws of nature give me, the individual, a right to protect my life, my Liberty, and my property – and those of my family and innocent people – with lethal force whenever and wherever necessary. I further affirm that the benefit of the doubt should always be given to the victim of an illicit act, not to the criminal who was fortunately thwarted in his or her attempt to violate the victim’s sacred rights.

You may not care about swastika flags, but you should care very much about property rights. You may not agree with the personal viewpoints of the shooter in this case, but you should care about whether his right to defend his home and possessions is held inviolate. You may have sympathy for the woman who was shot, but you should never let your judgment become so clouded with emotion that you can’t label her a thief and a criminal. You will rarely go astray in your judgment if you always keep in mind the importance of our natural rights and our paramount right of self-defense. Self-defense, even when it means ending the life of an offender, is part of the “perfect freedom” with which man is born.
